🏊🏼 Swimming
We are swimming in Week 8 of this term so now is a good time to help prepare for this week. Some skills that will help your child to be independent are:
- Undressing and putting clothes back in their swimming bag (and keeping belongings together) and socks in shoes
-Drying themselves and putting dry clothes back on
-Keeping belongings together
Please ensure that all items are labelled, even underwear and socks! Items to label include:
-All school uniform items
-Goggles
-Swimming bag
-Towels and bathers
-Hair brushes (if needed)
-Swimming caps
-Underwear and socks
CURRICULUM
📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics
Students will complete two UFLI sessions this week (4 lessons and an assessment).
Students will learn to read and spell words with the trigraphs 'dge' and review 'tch'. They will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will also review the following heart words: woman, women, and learn the heart word: move.
Students will work with their fluency partner to read aloud and practise smooth reading.
What can you do at home?
-Assist your child to read their 'take home' book each night
-Help your child learn to read and spell their Heart Words
-Explore the Reading Eggs library and Fast Phonics to read decodable texts
-Continue to revise sounds on the sound/letter ring

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing
The mentor texts will be a variety of non fiction texts about Bees.Students will use these texts to compare fiction and non fiction books, as well as writing a simple data / information chart about bees.
Students will continue to practise handwriting formations on dotted thirds writing paper.
What can you do at home?
-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home
-Provide authentic opportunities for your child to write at home eg. writing birthday cards, shopping lists and keeping score in games.
🔢 Maths
Students will revise the operations of addition and subtraction. They will extend their thinking to find the missing addend in a number sentence eg. 9 + ? = 14 or 15 - ? = 7. They will use the strategy of 'count on' or 'count back' and use manipulatives such as counters to help them solve problems. Students will make the connection between addition and subtraction.
What can you do at home?
-Count collections, making sure to count accurately
-Continue to read numbers in your environment
-Practise writing numbers at home, ensuring that numbers are not reversed!
🌏 CBL - Curiosity
In CBL rotations, students will be learning all about bees, to complement our learning in literacy 🐝
In biological science, students will plant a bee habitat.
In chemical science, students will mix colours to create a garden scene for a bee.
In earth / space science, students will learn about why we need bees.
