Relieving Principal's Report

Ms Maturana

Dear Parents/ Carers,

It is exciting to be writing my first newsletter as Relieving Principal at Fairvale Public School.

Firstly, I want to extend a warm THANK YOU to all teachers, students and the school community for your support and kindness as I transitioned to FVPS. I have enjoyed meeting the students and having the opportunity to pop into classrooms to learn and connect. I have equally enjoyed the passing hello, the waves from the car of an afternoon and joining the Parent Café last Thursday. I feel very lucky to be working with your school community.

My first week at FVPS was ACTION PACKED!

Classroom visits:

This past week and a half, I danced my way to various classes. I have thoroughly enjoyed all lessons across Key Learning Areas.

In K Cook, students were learning about ‘cows’, their various body parts, what they eat and where they live. Students taught me lots of technical words which they used to construct descriptive sentences for their writing. Mr Carbone and the students were very excited to be going on their Kinder Farm excursion this week.

2 Dalton were engaging in a Mathematics lesson on how to tell time using an analogue clock. They were learning the terms of ‘half past’ and used their own mini clocks to show their understanding.  It was great to see explicit teaching of time from Miss Duong.

My first FRANKIE DAY:

My first week at Fairvale involved a personal meet and greet with the famous Frankie. It was great to see students wearing their red, green, yellow and blue colours. The student leadership team, with the support of Mrs Bruzzese, led a successful fundraiser. I know that they have already discussed how their fundraising funds could support a community initiative- more information to come.

Visit to the Parent Café and Parent Group:

On Wednesday and Thursday, I visited the Playgroup and Parent Café run by our wonderful Community Liaison Officers- Mrs Michelle and Mrs Samira. I was fortunate to receive a warm reception meeting all our parents, including some delicious home made cake and flowers. I look forward to returning this Thursday with the opportunity to further discuss FVPS and how I can continue to support the community.

Kindergarten Orientation:

It was wonderful to meet the children and families of Kindergarten 2025. As I walked around to classrooms, all students were settled and engaged with play. Thank you to our senior students who are currently supporting Kindergarten Orientation sessions.

In 2025, all Kindergarten students will begin on Thursday 6 February 2025. More information will be communicated shortly.

Congratulations to Miss Fletcher:

Miss Fletcher has been successful in the merit selection process and is to be appointed as Deputy Principal at Crestwood Public School to begin in 2025.

Miss Fletcher commenced at Fairvale PS during 2018. The school and staffing community has been blessed with an authentic, genuine, experienced, kind and passionate educator. She is an integral part of the school community, supporting staff and the school executive during the introduction of new curriculum, school planning and through her various roles within the school. She has established deep connections with students and families and I know she will be very much missed. Towards the end of the term, we will host a special assembly to farewell and celebrate her time at FVPS.

I will commence the internal Expression of Interest process to appoint a relieving Deputy Principal for 2025. I will keep you updated with this information.

Reminders:

Just a reminder that students should be arriving to school from 8.30am. There is no teacher supervision until 8.30am. Arrival at 8.30am ensures students are adequately supervised and provides them with sufficient time to place lunch orders, go to YUM Club for breakfast and socialise with friends before commencing the school day at 9am.

SPOTLIGHT ON STUDENT WORK

I was super impressed with KC writing this week. The class independently constructed sentences using technical vocabulary and could confidently explain the terms and their purpose. These four girls were SUPER proud of their work. They came to show me their finished writing piece! They are definitely ready for Year 1!
