NAIDOC WEEK
Our Foundation students have had a wonderful time celebrating NAIDOC Week through meaningful learning experiences that deepened their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives.
Throughout the week, students participated in Yarning Circles, where they practised listening respectfully, sharing their ideas and learning from one another. These conversations helped build a sense of community while recognising the importance of storytelling and connection in First Nations cultures.
Students explored the importance of Connecting to Country by using natural materials to inspire their creativity. They collected and arranged leaves, sticks, stones and other natural elements to create their own imaginative stories, demonstrating that stories can be shared in many different ways while fostering an appreciation for the natural environment.
In Mathematics, students explored location and positional language by creating their own maps using First Nations map symbols. They also used leaves and other natural materials to form numerals, strengthening their number recognition while engaging with hands-on learning inspired by the natural world.
It has been wonderful to see our youngest learners embrace these experiences with curiosity, creativity and respect. Through storytelling, mathematics and collaborative learning, students have developed a deeper appreciation of First Nations cultures while strengthening their own sense of belonging, connection and understanding. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and thoughtful learning our Foundation students have demonstrated throughout NAIDOC Week.
100 Days Celebration
Our Foundation students recently celebrated a very special milestone—100 Days of School!
Over the past few weeks, we have been investigating the number 100 and reflecting on what 100 days of growing, learning and making friendships looks like.
The celebrations were filled with laughter and learning! Students created wonderful 100 Days crafts, brainstormed 100 things they would like to have and 100 things they would not like to have, and put their estimating skills to the test by predicting where 100 steps would take them around the school. One adventurous group found themselves marching straight into the Principal's office! Mrs. Figen was certainly surprised to be greeted by so many "100-year-olds"!
To add to the fun, students transformed Ms. Reanna's classroom into the Foundation Nursing Home for the day, with everyone embracing the theme by dressing up as if they were 100 years old. The smiles and laughter throughout the day were unforgettable.
The celebrations continued with a delicious morning tea, followed by hot chips for lunch, generously provided by Mrs. Figen. We finished the day with a special certificate presentation and cake to recognise everything our Foundation students have achieved during their first 100 days of school.
A big thank you to our Meadows Primary School community for helping celebrate this wonderful milestone. We are incredibly proud of how much our Foundation students have grown in confidence, independence and learning over the past 100 days. Here's to many more exciting days of learning together!
