What's happening in Term 4 - Week 2
We were thrilled to host the Scholastic Book Fair again this year at Karoo Primary School! The Book Fair is designed to give students access to more books they love, from new releases to classic award winners. As children grow, Book Fairs make it easy for families to expand their home libraries. Plus, since all proceeds benefit your child’s school, parents can feel good knowing that classroom libraries are growing, too.
We’d like to thank all of our community members for supporting the Book Fair. We hope you’ve found some great new additions for your home libraries.
Last year, Karoo was able to purchase over $3,500 worth of books! We’re excited to tally up this year's sales. All funds raised through the event will go towards providing resources for our students. In fact, the funds raised in 2023 covered the cost of this year's author visit, making it free for all families.
On Monday 14th October, Karoo Primary School students were treated to a special visit from author Coral Vass. Coral has written numerous books on a wide range of topics, including picture storybooks, chapter books, and books about First Nations history in Australia. Each year level had the opportunity to meet Coral and listen to her read some of her published stories.
Foundation to Year 2 students enjoyed readings of Peek and Boo, Good Morning Possum, and Two Birds on a Wire. The Year 3 and Year 4 students were treated to a performance
of Two Birds on a Wire, which was acted out by selected students under Coral's guidance. It was very funny to watch!
The Year 5 and Year 6 students had the chance to put their classroom learning into practice. They were provided with images to create a "writer's seed" and were guided by Coral’s thought-provoking questions. The Year 5 students applied the comprehension strategy of 'Questioning' by asking the questions they had prepared during Reading sessions. Students who missed the opportunity to ask their questions in person will be able to email them to Coral.
