KJ

It has been a busy second half of the term!

We all participated in our class speeches and did a great job. We dressed up for Book Week in some amazing characters and visited the Book Fair. We have learnt about where food comes from, tasted some food from another country and are looking forward to our farm excursion. We did a science experiment with Mrs Coleman and we have worked together on a number of Maths and Literacy activities.

We can’t wait to work together again in Term 4!

KP

KP have had a great term. Learning about friends of ten in various fun and engaging ways. Participating in their first book week parade where everyone dressed up in amazing costumes. We also got to meet a frog that Mrs Jones found in the playground. The students wanted to keep it as a class pet but Mrs Jones let it go back into its own safe environment. They have been learning about important places and where food comes from. Which leads us to our excursion to the farm. The students are very excited and are going to experience some special things.

Term 4 is fast approaching! A great finish to Kindergarten.

1/2M

1/2M have been very busy these last few weeks. We have been publishing our hybrid texts about seals using the Chromebooks. We have been investigating fables and the morals they can teach us. In mathematics, we have been solving worded problems and looking at how there can be multiple answers to a question.

We had many events occur over the term. We had our Book Parade where we got to dress up as book characters. We had our Year 6 Buddy Leaders teach us about the effects of littering and what we can do to stop it. Most recently, we had our planetarium incursion where we got to see stars, plants and constellations!

We are looking forward to another exciting term!

1/2B

What a busy and exciting finish to Term 3! In Geography, we learnt about the location of different places. We found out lots about the Post Office and got to send ourselves a letter. Did you know that Australia is a continent and a country? We were surprised too. In Maths, we got to explore arrays through lego and even use the sandpit to measure volume! It was so much fun. Who can forget the Book Parade? We were dressed so amazingly, that Miss Mowlam couldn’t tell who some of us were behind the masks. We love when our buddies read and play Kahoot with us. To finish our learning about Earth and Space, we visited a portable Planetarium. We were astounded at the different stars, planets and constellations. We wonder what will happen next term…

1/2D

It has been a busy end to term 3 for 1/2D, with a new teacher, book week, an incursion and wonderful learning!

Students have been learning about seals through writing, and they have produced their own hybrid texts about them! 1/2D have also been exploring arrays in maths and have constructed their own 'array cities'. In week eight, 1/2D students also participated in Book Week, exhibiting their amazing costumes, and Year 6 Buddy Lessons. In week 10, students had the chance to take part in an incursion where they learnt about Earth and Space!

Here's what some of the students had to say about their incursion:

  • 1/2D Student - my favourite part of the science incursion was going into the planetarium bubble and seeing the constellations.
  • Emilia - I liked seeing the Earth rotating and that the sun doesn’t go around the Earth.
  • Meghan - My favourite part of the science incursion was seeing the constellations.
  • Hudson - My favourite part of the science incursion was seeing the star constellations. The bubble was so cool that we had to enter a very strange way in a little entrance. The stars were very cool that everyone was in shock. Inside it was very cool and dark. My other favourite thing was seeing the planets and the moon. The moons were very cool because they were changing into different moons. The sun was very cool also because it was reflecting at the planet Earth. The moon was black and white.
  • Noah - My favourite part of the science incursion was going into the planetarium bubble and seeing the planets. My favourite part was when I saw the stars and the solar system. I got to learn lots of things. I loved when we saw the constellations.

3MM

3MM

In 3MM this term we have learnt about similes which is where you say ‘like’ or ‘as’ to compare two things. For example, he ate like a pig! Or he is as messy as a pig. We have also learnt about metaphors which is where you say one thing is something else but it’s not actually. It just helps to create a vivid description. Now we are learning about onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia is often used in comics and they’re sound words like ‘POW’, ‘BOOM’ and ‘KAPOW’. I’m so excited about Term 4!

Do you know who Wandi is? Wandi is a dingo, well an alpine dingo. In my class we have read Wandi and we loved it so much that I want to read it again! The book is about Wandi’s journey and his life. It’s interesting and sad. In a part of the story, he gets taken by an eagle! I almost cried! It’s such a great book and that’s why your class should also read it!

3/4B

Recently in 3/4B we have been learning about the book Piano Fingers.  Enjoy Piano Fingers because of it’s beautiful pictures and how the author Caroline Magerls put some thought into Piano Fingers when writing it for us to enjoy. A fun activity we did this term about the book Piano Fingers was learning about metaphors and personification. I like personification and metaphors because I get to talk from my perspective. This was fun and I can’t wait to find out what we do next term.

This term in 3/4B we have been learning how to cook pizza muffins. You must try them, they’re delicious! After we ate them we also baked M&M slice. Everybody loved it. You might love it too if you make the decision to try it… The M&M slices were my favourite bit of this term. I can’t wait to find out what we learn next term!

4/5LM

Come and join the fun in 4/5LM for Term 3. In Component B we have been learning about poems to be exact, concrete poems, Haiku and a poem called ‘Tiktok Dance’ by Maxene Beneba Clarke. We all wrote Haikus and just finished our concrete poems about a season of our choice. Even maths is amazing! We have been smashing through our bar models to represent decimals and also showing them on number lines. Moving on to PDHPE, we have been learning about children’s rights and different parts of the human body and how they change over time. There is a question box that you may have spotted while stopping in our classroom for any questions we have after lessons. I saved the best for last! In Science, we made solar ovens and made yummy s’mores. We also learnt about erosion. Recently in 4/5LM we made cupcakes as a class reward. Thank you for coming along with us on our Term 3 journey!

Welcome to the description of Term 3 in 4/5LM. We are having the best adventure this term! In writing, we have been learning about poetry, how fun is that! We have been learning about Haiku poems. A Haiku is a poem that has 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line and 5 syllables in the third line. Another type of poem we’ve learnt about is a poem that is performed as a dance called ‘Tiktok Dance’. This is a poem written not by someone famous like Ariana Grande, but a teacher. We’ve also learnt how to construct a concrete poem which is shaped into the shape of the topic the poem is about, how cool is that! Moving on to maths, everybody loves maths in 4/5LM, it’s so fun! We are learning about fractions and decimals which has been fun to learn about. Now for Science, we learnt about weathering, erosion and energy which we made solar ovens for and baked s’mores! The s’mores were awfully good and if you look at the photos you’ll see what I mean! Next up, PDHPE! In PDHPE we have been learning about people we trust, taking care of our body and bullying. PDH can get uncomfortable sometimes but it’s awesome to learn about things we need to know. The las part of this adventure is our class rewards for earning dojo points. The rewards we received this term involved a snug day, baking cupcakes as a class and watching a movie with snacks! I really enjoyed it all. I hope you enjoyed reading about Term 3 in 4/5LM as much as I enjoyed myself this term. 😊

K/6 Koalas

K/6T have been learning about counting and length using informal units in maths recently. We decided to build the longest line using collections of classroom resources. We used egg shakers, markers and building blocks.

We have had Keeper and Toto the therapy dogs come and visit us each week this term in K/6K. It's always so exciting when they come into our classrooms - we love to pet, walk, brush and cuddle these furry friends during out morning learning sessions.

Canberra Camp By Mya

On our first alluring day of our long awaited camp, we made it to the National Museum of our loved country, Australia. I learned many different interesting facts about my home country and got to see lots of old artifacts that were used in many famous events. I got the once in a lifetime chance to explore this famous ongoing museum that is visited by millions of different people. Me and my fellow classmates got to find out about our extinct ancestors and animals such as Tasmanian tigers. I got the opportunity to see copies of famous orca whales and the story behind them getting dangerously close to being extinct. I got to explore unique symbols of the first Australians.

After we went to the captivating museum, we got to go visit the current Parliament House that different elections take place in. I got to glance at the House of Representatives and even the Senate. We didn’t quite get to go inside the ground floor of these rooms but did get to have an idea of what the people do inside those rooms. I got to learn about the importance of the speaker and the for and against a new law. We saw the rule books lined up in the middle of the important table and the different seats. As we made our way out of the Parliament House, we took photos before getting back onto the coach.

The coach made its way to the old Parliament House where we got to sit in the past house of representatives and even had the chance to see the old outfits that they would wear during the debate. I got to see portraits of all the past prime ministers and read lots off acts about them. Our tour guide taught us about when women got the rights to vote and same with the indigenous people of Australia. Me and the other students got to play a little scavenger hunt on an interactive board. (we were required to wear gloves to preserve the exhibitions).

It was getting late and we made our way to the well looked after lodge that we were going to spend the long awaited night to come. We put all of our bags down in the common room and made our way to the dining hall to eat dinner as we were all yearning for food after our long journey. For dinner, we had pasta, spaghetti and hot dogs. It was a decent meal and I was full for the night. We went to our given rooms and I was thankfully given the right to be the room captain. We made our own beds and had showers before getting our pajamas on and going back into the common room for a game. We spent about half an hour to an hour playing fun games and singing. We got back into bed and brushed our teeth before we eventually drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, I was stirred awake by a morning song that the teachers decided to play which wasn’t very pleasant. I got out of bed and freshened up in the mirror as Miss Gibbs walked in to double check that we were awake in time for breakfast. We went to breakfast and had sausages, eggs, cereal, baked beans, toast and juice. We went back to the rooms to get dressed as we played

handball and prepared to get back on the coach to go to Mt. Ainslie where we took photos and looked at the view.

After the mountain, we lined up outside of Questacon and waited patiently until it was our time to go inside and explore the fun location. We went into a few different rooms and did lots of different activities before it came time to do the steep slide. A few kids from our group decided to go through with it and a few backed out. Overall, Questacon was fun and we got souvenirs to take home and remember the unforgettable memories and bonds that we made.

Questacon was not too far away from the old Parliament House where we were going for a second time for a little program that was booked for us. We watched videos of the old times of parliament and how women didn’t get voting rights until 1902 and indigenous people until 1962. We did another interactive game for a few minutes before we got to do a fun little vote of ourselves including fruits. We were taught about formal and informal voting and how your vote doesn’t count if you don’t vote properly or follow the rules.

That's when we came to the last part of our camp and got to have lunch in the nice peaceful rose gardens.

Canberra Excursion

Canberra Trip - Phillip

Little me would have never thought of being in the Parliament House when the prime minister was just below us. Hi my name is Phillip and I went to stage three Canberra camp. Now I'm going to recap my first day in Canberra. “Are you ready for this adventure? Buckle up because here we go! ”I woke up at precisely 4:10 am and I was so tired. I had a nice warm shower and got ready. After I was ready we left at 5:00am and headed off to eat brekkie, I ended up getting McDonald’s and got hash browns and an orange juice. After breakfast, we picked up Mya who was excited for the trip and drove to school. The coach came and Mya and I were buddies so we sat next to each other on the way there and back. We drove past signs to Wollongong, Goulburn and lots of little towns. We drove past Lake George and saw a lot of wind turbines and I mean a lot, like 40 of them. The excitement came when we passed the border of the Australian Capital Territory and we knew we were getting close. From my view I saw a massive Ikea, Costco and other warehouses. Then finally we reached buildings shaped like triangles, wiggly lines and even circles and knew we were officially in Canberra. As I looked out of the window next to me, I realised how beautiful Canberra really is. Now our first stop- the National Museum of Australia, this opportunity taught me

about the dangers of marine life and our first nations people. It had plenty of artifacts and paintings. Our second and my personal favourite stop- Parliament House, we met our tour guide Emily. She was really formal and kind. She showed us around the building where we saw the House of Representatives and the Senate and all of the portraits of past prime ministers. My personal favourite was Mr Kevin Rudd with his cat Lowie. Then Emily told us that Mr Anthony Albanese was in the building filming a conference. That made my day knowing that Mr Albanese was only one floor away. Now this is the end of my day one experience, honestly this was one of my favourite camps.  Signing of Phillip

Canberra Camp By Evette

On the first day we went to the museum and learnt about Australia's first nation’s people and their awards for sporting achievements, then we learnt about whales, sea life and my favourite- the corrupted evil orcas! After that we had lunch, sat there eating for a bit and then got on the bus, guess where we drove? AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT HOUSE! We learnt about the speaker, the mace and the prime minister, we also got to see portraits of the old prime ministers! Then we got back on the bus and went to Old Parliament House! We did some really fun learning activities and then we did something we didn’t think we could really do! And that’s sitting in the actual House of Representatives, it was so fun! But no one got to sit where the speaker, the mace, and the prime minister’s seatthough.

Then went to the motel where we slept and had warm showers, did our hair, brushed our teeth and had fun before bed playing a guessing game.

Then we got woken up by Miss Gibbs’ beautiful song and singing and dancing (bye bye bye from NSync). Then we ate breakfast in our pyjamas and went to Mt Ainslie to see the view of the War Memorial and both old and new Parliament House. From there, we went to Questacon. I was going to do the giant slide but I didn't and we had lunch in the old parliament house rose garden.
