Construction

Year 11 Construction students have been focusing on framing and carpentry terminology through a group project to build a dog kennel. This project emphasises essential skills such as accurate measuring and the application of carpentry techniques. Following this, students will continue to work collaboratively on the Group Dog Kennel Project, where they will enhance their skills in framing, cladding, and painting.

Year 12 Construction is nearing the end of the course. Students have completed all practical components, including a recent unit on brick and block work. During this unit, they used various bricklaying tools to construct a small wall. With these practical elements behind them, they are now focusing on their final theory work. The students will shift their attention to preparing for the exam, working through several practice papers to refine their examination skills.

Hospitality

Year 11 culinary students have excelled this term, mastering basic dishes and drinks. They’ve completed their second competency cluster, showcasing their skills through practical projects like chicken katsu and toasted focaccia sandwiches. A work placement at Pear Tree Cafe has boosted their confidence and industry knowledge, preparing them for their upcoming Term 4 placement.

Year 12 Hospitality students have successfully completed their Trial exams and are on track for RSA certification next term at TAFE. They’ve honed their barista skills and explored their culinary interests. As the term ends, they’re focused on completing competencies and preparing for the HSC exam.

Manufacturing and Engineering

Year 11 Manufacturing students are nearing the end of their Toolbox project, where they have prioritised collaboration to ensure a consistently high quality of work across the class. Throughout this project, they have honed a diverse set of skills, including precision in craftsmanship and effective teamwork. This hands-on experience is setting them up well for their upcoming work placement early next term, where they will apply and further develop these skills in a real-world setting.

Our Year 12 Manufacturing students have successfully completed their course, with the final project being a multi-material machining project. The manufacturing of a soft faced hammer with interchangeable heads allowed students to develop skills in both the lathes and milling machine to produce a high-quality project. Using nylon, brass, aluminum and bright steel allowed students to gain an appreciation of the machining characteristics of a variety of materials.
