Careers and Transition
Goals + Knowledge + Skills = Success
Wow, it is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of 2025. This year has been a busy year for the CAT Team. We have had many students engaging in TAFE courses, Whitecard Training, First Aid Training, pre-apprenticeship skills courses, university visits, industry immersions and work experience programs. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in making these experiences available to our students.
This term also saw the launch of our Careers and Transition Facebook page. This page provides Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 parents, carers and students information about upcoming careers events, programs, job vacancies and showcases the amazing achievement of our FGHS students. If you have a child in Year 10, 11 or 12, please use the QR code below to join this group.
The HunterNet Marine Operations Headstart program was delivered by local training facility M.A.S.T. located on Newcastle Harbour at Wickham.
M.A.S.T trainers gave students' knowledge about the many diverse Marine Industry roles and opportunities around our busy Port of Newcastle and prepared students for a successful pathway into the Marine Industry.
Activities included
This term 30 students attended the Uni Steps Food Science & Human Nutrition excursion at the University of Newcastle Ourimbah Campus. Students enjoyed a number of hands on activities including 3D food printing. Students explored the latest technologies and facilities in the Ourimbah Campus Food Science laboratories.
Our last White Card training day for 2024 took place on Wednesday 13/11/24. This year we had over 50 students successfully complete their White Card training.
White Cards (or general construction induction card) are required for workers who want to carry out construction work. People who need a White Card include site managers, supervisors, surveyors, labourers and tradespeople, people who access operational construction zones (unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person) and workers whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones.
This term has seen many students engage in work experience Feedback from host employers has been very positive and some students have been offered full time work, apprenticeships or school based apprenticeships.
We hope that all students and families enjoy the break and we look forward to working with all the students to explore their future pathways in 2025.
