From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

I imagine that you all enjoyed the spectacle of the Art Show, and the amazing talents that every student has demonstrated in their various pieces displayed. The array of mediums and techniques that have been offered to the students to use in their weekly art lessons throughout the year, including paint, pastels, clay, Modrock and sewing has enabled them to develop their creativity while expressing themselves. The creativity draws to mind the words of Pope Francis “Whenever we make the effort to return to the source and to recover the original freshness of the Gospel, new avenues arise, new paths of creativity open up, with different forms of expression, more eloquent signs and words with new meaning for today’s world (Evangelii Gaudium, 11). Much appreciation to Mrs Trish Trounsen who, through her own enthusiasm, always encourages all students to nurture their creativity and try new things.  The Art Show will be open to families at pick and drop off today and tomorrow, and after 10.30am Mass on Sunday.

STEM MAD

This week we had two groups of students represent St Philip’s at the STEM MAD exposition at the Catholic Leadership Centre. Congratulations to the two groups who progressed to the second level in the competition: Belinda, Carol, Eliza and Navkirat; and Francis and Riccardo. Many thanks to Mrs Michelle Sherriff for her ongoing support and teaching that enabled them to proceed to this level. Thanks to Mrs Sherriff and Mrs Louise Callander for supporting the students during the expo.

District Athletics

Another event this week was the District Athletics at Rieschiecks Reserve. Congratulations to all students from grades four to six who participated. Particular recognition to Eliza and Zara who made it to the next level in shotput and discuss. Their success means they will both represent St Philip’s at Division Level in October. Thanks to Mrs Mary Terrance and Mrs Adi Crawford for supporting the students at the track.

Footy Day

As we are in the midst of the AFL grand final season, next Thursday is Footy Day. Students will be offered party pies and sausage rolls for lunch on the day. A separate form will be sent out for students to make their selection. The tuckshop will also be open on the day for students to purchase snacks. I recommend that students still bring lunch/snack from home on the day.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS)

Thank you to the families who have completed the MACSSISS surveys. These surveys form an important part of the review and future planning of our school by outlining practices and strategies which are working well and areas which require improvement. We encourage all families who have not yet completed the survey and thank you in advance for your cooperation. The surveys remain open until Friday 20 September.

A lot has happened during Term Three. It has been pleasing to observe the students’ participation in all areas of their learning, including the many extra-curricular activities that we have had. I wish you all a happy and safe holiday.

Warm regards,

Michelle Worcester

Principal

Tuck Shop

Tuckshop is without a doubt the highlight of the week for the children. This would not be possible without our small team of committed volunteers showing up week after week. Please reach out to Clara on 0449 767 020 or Angi on 0431 021 711 if you can help.

 We appreciate your support.
