University application and early entry deadlines in September: a message from UAC

Application deadlines

September is a crucial month for UAC applications. in

Schools Recommendation Scheme closing – 16 September

Applications for the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) close at 11.59pm on Monday 16 September. Students can access the SRS application once they have submitted their UAC application for admission.

The first SRS offers will be released on Friday 8 November.

Early bird applications closing – 30 September

Early bird applications close at 11.59pm on Monday 30 September, after which UAC’s processing charge increases from $80 to $215. This deadline is not related to early offers.

Year 12 applicants can also 'commit to pay' using BPAY. Payment must be made, however, in order to have their application assessed and receive an offer.

Advice from UAC about pathways to university degrees

When students feel that the degree they are keen on is out of reach, it's a good opportunity to remind them that institutions offer a variety of pathways – such as diplomas, foundation studies and certificates – to help them transition to uni and reach their goals. Here's an explanation of pathway courses and tips for selecting UAC preferences.

Voluntary Presentations for senior students on Scholarships and Choosing Careers and Courses.

Mrs Barrett held workshops on these topics in recent weeks to assist students with tips and advice  and also to  show them where they can find information to help them.

University deadlines and EAS applications with UAC

Mrs Barrett and Mrs  Stuart visited all Year 12 classes last week to highlight some of the key deadlines and tips for students applying to university and to speak about EAS applications.

Students applying to university who have experienced some kind of long term educational disadvantage due to factors beyond their control through the University Admissions Centre (UAC) may be eligible for consideration under the Educational Access Scheme (EAS).

Students wishing to access this scheme are to  see Mrs Stuart in the coming weeks. The deadline for applications and documents through UAC is November 21, 2024.  Mrs Stuart’s email address: sstuart@arm.catholic.edu.au

Importance of Year 11 exams to future options

Year 11 students were reminded again last week that their HSC has already begun with universities using the end of Year 11 grade as a key factor in making early offers to university courses during Term 3 of Year 12.  The end of Year 11 exams are therefore very important to students applying to early entry programs and also those seeking employment with some employers asking for recent school reports.

Advice on choosing patterns of study for the HSC and whether to change levels or drop subjects will be given to Year 11 after exam results are known early in Term 4.

You Should be a Cop | 4 Day Program

Due to the popularity of the NSW Police Expo held in Tamworth earlier this year, the NSWPF Youth Command and People and Capability Command held a follow-up 4 Day ‘You Should be a Cop’ program at the Tamworth PCYC. Three students had the opportunity to attend this program where they were put through a ‘Fit for life program’ which included an exercise session aimed at providing information about physical testing, how to improve physical testing results and to ask questions about fitness testing. Students also participated in the ‘Aquatic Rescue Sequence’ conducted by an AUSTSWIM instructor. Students also had the opportunity to learn about:

  • How and why they should become a cop
  • What recruits need to do to be a cop
  • What it is like to be a specialist cop in the NSWPF.
