McCarthy Plays Chess against Farrar
On Wednesday, 28th August, the McCarthy Chess team travelled to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School to play a series of chess games. The games were designed to further develop playing skills and a chance for players from different schools to meet.
For the representative players, this event provided a valuable chance to hone their skills before playing in the Second Division Grand Final for the North West Regional Secondary School Chess Competition.
Great camaraderie was seen between all players with the final game proving to be the showstopper.
Thanks goes to Mr Blanch and Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School for hosting this event.
Chess Fun Fact:
The game became popular in India and then spread to Persia, and the Arabs. The Arabs coined the term “Shah Mat”, which translates to “the King is dead”. This is where the word “checkmate” came from.
