Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden with 3/4M

Term 4 has begun and last week we ended seven weeks with 3/4 D.  We said goodbye to all the amazing volunteers who had helped us with this group and provided so much patience.  We enjoyed having their positive presence with us as we embarked on the SAKG experience.  We celebrated with our famous end of program, vegetarian pizza and school grown rhubarb for some tasty muffins.  The students loved this end of program session and proudly gave our volunteers their thank you certificates.

As one group finished, it meant another one was about to start.  This week we started the journey to the end of the year with our final group (3/ 4 M) starting their SAKG experience.  The students worked hard to make their placemats bright and colourful and we explained how the sessions would run.  The students worked hard to ensure we had four parts of our meal on the table by 1pm.  The silverbeet from the garden was used in our spaghetti and its glossy green goodness was gobbled up by all the hungry mouths.  On the way out to lunch, the students were able to enjoy a moist and tasty raspberry muffin as a dessert.  It was so yummy and slightly crunchy on the top too!

Thanks to all the parents who came to help us in the first week.  If you are free to help 3/4M in the kitchen on a Tuesday for the next six weeks, please message me via Seesaw.

Arigatou!

Student Reflections:

Cooking was sooooo fun. It was one of my most favourite meals. We cooked Spaghetti! We did things like cutting garlic. It was smelly but it was still fun. We also went into the awesome garden. Most of the garden had lettuce but I only saw one strawberry plant. Then we cut the end of the lettuce with a sharp knife , I had never seen an electric stovetop before. It was awesome. I can't wait to get ready to eat the cupcakes and spaghetti!  By Kai

In 3/4M it was time for us to cook as always it is the most favourite thing in 3/4M you can learn how to cook but the thing is some people hate the groups because they get their friends in their group but if you have a friend in your group they will keep talking and not focus and cut themselves like how i did but sometimes it's an accident.  By Gigi

In our school we have cooking lessons on our sports days. On 15/10/2024 it was 3/4Ms turn on cooking. Our teachers for helping are some of our parents and Mrs Siegert including Niki sensei. Everyone in this class and like all the others, we were sorted into groups. The groups are Zucchinis, Carrots, Tomatoes and Eggplants. There were 4 things and 1 thing was tackled and made by each group.   By Sienna B

Today we did a Stephanie Alexander cooking session. I was in the eggplant group,  the parent helping my group was Crystal. I made a salad. The salad had apples, yoghurt, chives, celery and lots of lemon juice. The salad was sour because we poured a lot of the lemon juice into our bowl.  There was one main meal, one salad, one dip and bread. By Toby

From these 7 weeks my favourite thing from salad, main meal and dip is… Bread! We made bread today and I think that we made rhubarb and lemon muffins. We almost forgot to add sugar! In it was sugar, flour, lemon, rhubarb and eggs! Thank you for your time. By Taesha

My favourite food was spaghetti. The first time we did it  I also liked the stir fried rice because the liquid soup tasted nice. We made pizza, I cut silverbeet, onions and sprinkled some mixed herbs. I also spread the tomato paste. I thought I wouldn't like onions but now I do. My mum helped with the cooking too. I loved cooking for the past seven weeks. By Leon
