Minecraft

Students in Year  9, 10 & 11 were given the opportunity to work in Minecraft Education Edition to develop coding skills. The students have been offered the Introductory course, to start with, which will lead to a certification and a pathway to the Intermediate and Advanced courses of coding.

Students spent Monday and Tuesday in the Stem Centre developing these skills. The course also compliments what they have been doing this year and also for their future study in Computing Technologies, iStem and Software Design and Development.

Students are required to work through a series of lessons which have a variety of activities and by doing so they are developing coding skills. Once they have completed each lesson they save their results into the system. Students have to upload their solutions for marking as well as upload the answers to each of the assessment tasks required.

Students have also been watching several videos regarding work experience pathways with coding and Microsoft. One of the videos they watched was with the lead designer and programmer for Minecraft and what is happening in the industry.

We were only able to do the first 2 days live with the rest of the hundreds of other schools across the state that are also involved in the program. Their progress will be monitored and assessed. They will be able to do the course at home using the internet and their logins which some of students indicated that they were very likely to do that.

Students, if they can complete all these courses could lead to traineeships or employment at Microsoft and/or other IT companies as these courses lead to opportunities to work in the IT industry. There is an increased need for IT personnel and these courses have been designed to find these potential employees.

It is hoped that those who have begun the course this week, will be able to finish the introduction course by the end of the school year to receive the accreditation for this course. Once completed, they will be then able to do the Intermediate course.

Further information and results of their success to come later and in 2024.
