P&C Alert

Treasurer required for 2024

URGENT‼️ URGENT!!

Dear Oak Flats Public School community,

Do you access our canteen services?

Do you appreciate the extra resources our school attains through P&C activities like discos, Pie Drive, colour run, raffles and BBQ’s?

If your answer is yes, then this is extremely important for you to read.

As part of minimum requirements in order to continue our canteen services, and fundraising activities for our school, we must have a Treasurer appointed.

We are seeking expressions of interest for the following position for our P&C committee:

Treasurer 2024

We are a registered not-for-profit organisation and this means any profits we do raise, go back into our school to make it the best it can be for our student’s learning experiences.

This also means that if you’re over 55 years old, and needing to meet a work/study/training test for Services Australia, this role would satisfy that test as a volunteer. This volunteer position could be appropriate for grandparents in this situation also.

So what does the Treasurer do?

The Treasurer is responsible for:

● Banking fundraising proceeds after events;

● Actioning accounts receiving & payable;

● Actioning fortnightly payroll for canteen staff;

● Finalise purchases - for example Mother’s & Father’s Day stall stock, Pie Drive orders (once per year), Disco snacks (once per term);

● Maintaining MYOB records for auditing;

● Financial reporting generally twice per term at committee meetings;

● Attending canteen committee meetings whenever scheduled.

Most people know how to transfer money or pay bills via their internet banking, so most people are capable technically, for this role.

It’s important to know that there are 4 other office bearers who make up our team and are there to support each other with tasks and activities. We are all volunteers and participate for a common interest - our children’s education.

However sadly, there are just three other committee members who regularly attend our meetings. We are a super small group and a supportive one. Please ignore stereotypes

associated with P&C groups, these do not apply to ours, you can be assured that it’s a very positive environment and a very rewarding one.

Our P&C and school have a fantastic system in place for our fundraising activities that provide lots of fun for our children.

We are very fortunate to have our Certified Healthy Canteen operating 5 days per week and to be in the position where any profits from our canteen benefits our school and only because it’s managed by the P&C. Many schools do not have a canteen at all, are open with limited days and/or outsourced to a private business where profits to our school are lost.

Oak Flats Public School has received many improvements and resources due to our P&C that all enriches our students’ education experience.

In recent years, we have funded, partially funded or sourced:

● Solar panels saving our school’s spending;

● Maths decodable resources for K-2;

● Air-conditioning to every classroom;

● Smart boards and upgraded them;

● Sports court;

● Cooinda Cove landscaping & yarning circle;

● WHS equipment for our committee’s activities;

● Hats for every Kindergarten student;

● Defibrillator and maintenance;

● Performing arts transport subsidies;

● Essential equipment for our canteen

● Sponsorship for students to represent at regional and state sporting events.

We have worked very hard to maintain an excellent calendar and system and are appealing to all parents of our school to please help our P&C committee continue to operate our canteen by way of our Treasurer position.

Our 2023 Treasurer Clare Tomkins, is able to handover with any needed support and guidance throughout the coming year, or wherever required.

If we don’t have anyone step up to the Treasurer role, our canteen will have to close next year.

If you are willing to learn how to do the above tasks as Treasurer, please contact one of us or email to ofpspc@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Oak Flats Public School P&C Association
