Library borrowing is winding down and Week 9, next week, is the final week to borrow, with book returns due on the next Monday, Monday December 4th. Yes, students may only be borrowing for three days if their Library session is Friday! Library club will still be on for the next week or so, and depending on other end of year activities, classes will be welcome in the Library for reading from our “December boxes”.  Library Ted is eager to share a picture story book which includes some concerning news about the Christmas beetle.

Restricted access means that I get a chance to find, sort, clean and mend a portion of the collection before school closes for the year.

Please keep in mind that Darebin and other local public libraries are open throughout the summer holidays, and they also offer reading related activities for kids. Op shops, bookshops, friends, and street libraries could offer a new read for your child too. Studies show that reading skills regress if they stop reading completely over the six or so weeks of summer holidays. Reading and comprehending what you read is a life skill that continues to improve over a whole lifetime of reading.

I have had a quick look at borrowing statistics, and we have just ticked over 30,000 loans for 2023. This includes 8,533 picture story books, 4542 Junior non-fiction books, 3,308 Non-fiction books, and 3176 Chapter books. A little bit of math tells me that most of the other 10,488 books will have been Fiction and Senior fiction books. Well done!

Enjoy your summer break.
