Selamat Datang (Welcome) to our new students and Selamat Datang Kembali (Welcome back) to returning students to Indonesian in 2024. To start our journey in Indonesian for the year and to get to know our classmates a bit better (as well as getting back in the habit of speaking Indonesian!), the first couple of weeks are spent talking about ourselves, our likes, dislikes and interests, and practicing key words and phrases that form the building blocks for all of our topics this year. Students participate in whole class and small group conversations and games with a focus on encouraging and helping others. This also helps any new students to start using small amounts of Indonesian from their very first lesson. Students will launch into their topics for the term from next week.
Hello Families,
We're excited to share what your students will be diving into this term in Visual Arts!
For our Preps, it's all about 'getting to know you through art' – a fantastic way for them to express themselves creatively. Following that, they'll explore our school values (safety, kindness, respect) through artistic endeavors, fostering a sense of community.
In the 1/2 classes, nature takes center stage as students observe art elements in our school sanctuary. They'll collaborate on a collection of pieces that will come together to illustrate a class short story. The cherry on top? They'll turn this tale into a digital book, showcasing their creativity and tech skills.
Moving on to the 3/4s, mindfulness kicks off their artistic journey, inspired by the book 'Ish' by Peter Reynolds. Following that, students will channel their inner designers, crafting their own lovies (soft toys) using various sewing techniques. The 'ish' concept from the book will be a guiding light, encouraging a unique touch in each creation.
For our 5/6s, it's all about self-discovery through a mixed-media self-portrait project. This empowering journey will allow them to express their individuality in a visually stunning way.
We can't wait to see the artistic adventures unfold this term!
Welcome back everyone!
I am excited to be teaching Performing Arts this term and it has been wonderful to see all the students’ smiling faces coming into the classroom.
This term we are focusing on music and are lucky enough to be using the Amplify Music Program. This is an online program that has engaging lessons and videos for each year level, using contemporary music to teach musical concepts. It is all curriculum based and so far the students have been loving it! The mix of videos, activities and application of concepts using instruments will ensure all students are accessing the benefits of learning about music.
Later in the term we will also be having an exciting dance incursion for Harmony Day, so keep an eye out for more information.
