Year 1 & 2

It has been wonderful to see the Year 1/2 students settle so quickly into their new classes!

Literacy

We have sorted out our classroom libraries. The students grouped books according to categories and will make signs for our classroom library book tubs. We have listened to and discussed many picture story books including The Pigeon has to Go to School, My Mouth is a Volcano, The Day the Crayons go Back to School and We Don’t Eat our Classmates! We have shared and written about what we did over the holidays. 

Things 1/2C like about being back to school:

Paityn: I am getting to make new friends and meet new people.

April: I like seeing Yuki every Wednesday.

Winnie: I love seeing my friends again.

Hudson: I love playing footy with my friends.

Ruhani: I love patting Yuki.

Ashton M: I like playing with my friends

Aubrey: I like seeing my friends from last year.

Things 1/2B have learned about the history of Yarra Road Primary School: 

Ellemiek: Yarra Road used to have a real tram

Dante: One thing that is different is the playground equipment 

Harrison: Yarra Road Primary School opened in 1925

Miller: One thing that is different is the swings

Henry: The school used to not have that many people

Clementine: Yarra Road used to have just one classroom

Maths

Students have been revisiting 1, 2 and 3 digit numbers in our Maths lessons. We also completed a ‘Maths About Me’ activity where we discussed how many family members we have, how many teeth we have lost and when our birthdays are. You can see the displays in the Junior Corridor.

Wellbeing

We have revisited our school value of Kindness and made a class puzzle to represent the words ‘Be Kind’. We talked about what Kindness looks like, feels like and sounds like in the classroom and outside.

Celebrating Our Students

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below student's certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
