Working Bee - Land Care Grant

Newlands PS is boosting its Indigenous biodiversity thanks to the enthusiasm of students, the dedication of parents, and the help of a $5000 Landcare grant!
Last year in the Community Inquiry program, 3/4AB started to look at some designs for a Nature Connection/Wellbeing Garden, and the 1/2s started to think up plans for a wildlife garden that would be protected from students yet close enough for students to be able to see and enjoy.
This year, the 1/2s are building up their understanding of what it means to be on Wurundjeri Country and how to create gardens that reflect where we are.
We need your help, though! The ugly strip along Murphy Street still resembles an old building site (which it is) so we have a lot of work to do to prepare it for planting and transform it into an Indigenous Habitat Corridor!
The formidable Buildings and Grounds Committee, along with me (Nerida), and the Community Inquiry program would love to see as many hands on deck (well, hands in soil, and tools in hand) to:
- weed
- move stones
- aerate soil
- spread mulch and maybe compost
- dig holes
There will be a pre-working bee sometime in May. This will be confirmed in the coming newsletters. (best just too block all of May just to make sure you can come and help :).
