Borrowing and Student Voice

Our students are continuing to borrow books on a regular basis and thus enjoy the benefits of reading.

We are very happy to be adding to our collection and are focussed on providing reading materials based on student interest.  We have recently added several magazine subscriptions to our collection:  Australian Dirt Bike Magazine, Freshwater Fishing Australia, Vogue, Better Homes and Gardens, OYLA Science magazine and The Tradie Magazine.

Student voice is very important to us, and we welcome your suggestions. Pop into the LRC and chat to us about genres/topics/ titles you would like to see in your library.

Payton Campbell of 12G  was very happy to see that the book she requested had arrived and was ready for her to borrow 😊

Recent Displays

To keep our students interested and engaged in reading, we are continually updating our displays. This enables us to present books in themes or in line with current events and celebrations within the school. Keep an eye out for new displays throughout term 2.

Scholastic Book Club- Issue 3 Out Now !

Our year 7 students are participating in Scholastic Book Club this year. Up to twice a term, during the school year, I will send home a Club catalogue with a different selection of books offered for all ages.

You will find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. I recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $3).

It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe, and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

Owning your own books is something special! I hope that you will encourage your child to order books this year. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our classroom, however there is never any obligation to order.  I know of no better way to encourage reading than to allow children to choose the books they want to read.

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is underway

This year we will be again offering the VPRC to all students form years 7-10.

Our Year 7 and 8 students are currently being assisted to complete their registration by Mrs Cutter and their tutor teachers. Students in years 9 and 10 will be assisted to sign up in the library if interested.

The Challenge encourages children and students to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online. Since the Challenge first began in 2005, more than 4.5 million students have read over 63 million books.
