Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

Warm greetings from the Middle Years as we share our May newsletter with you.

This term we have begun our roll-out of planned Positive Classroom Management Strategies. You will have seen on the weekly parent bulletin we are currently focused on our classroom entry and exit processes. Staff have been lining students up for a calm and orderly start to the lesson, and similarly ending the lesson in the routine of tidying the classroom and having students wait at their chairs until the dismissal bell. Small positive routines can make a big difference, and we are already seeing benefits in the class culture.

There are many events scheduled in the coming weeks your children will be participating in including Cross Country, Careers Planning and our Jobs Expo. We have scheduled Sub-School Awards Assemblies to  be held in the Gymnasium, here we will be recognising achievements and excellence from Term One.

Wyndham Central values student voice and we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. To help us better understand how students feel about their school experience, students in all year levels will be participating in the Attitudes to School Survey.

In preparation, teachers are discussing the importance of the survey with students, explaining how their honest feedback helps improve teaching, school culture, and student wellbeing. Participation is anonymous, and results are used to guide school improvement.

We encourage families to talk with their children about the survey and reassure them that their opinions matter.

Finally a reminder that attending school every day makes a big difference in your child’s learning, confidence, and success. We encourage all students to show up, stay engaged, and make the most of every learning opportunity. Missing just one day a fortnight adds up to over four weeks of lost learning in a year! Whether it’s joining your friends in class, taking part in activities, or building towards your goals—being at school matters.

If you're facing challenges with attendance, please speak to your teacher or someone from the wellbeing team—we’re here to support you.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8

We are pleased to report a strong and positive start to Term 2 at Wyndham Central College. Our Year 8 students have returned with energy and enthusiasm, and we are proud of their commitment to learning. This term will include important preparation for end-of-term assessments, with students being guided through revision strategies and supported to achieve their potential in Semester One.

During Pastoral time, our focus is on helping students become resilient and strong individuals. Through targeted sessions, they are learning valuable coping strategies, stress management techniques, and problem-solving skills. These lessons are designed to empower students to navigate challenges both in and out of the classroom, fostering a mindset of growth and perseverance.

We’re also excited to launch the Blue Edge Program this term, which provides students with a unique opportunity to enhance their sense of engagement, belonging, and connection. Through fitness-based activities and group discussions, the program aims to develop leadership, confidence, and a greater connection with school and community.

In Week 3, students will take part in Active Girls– an afternoon designed to support girls in building positive relationships and self-confidence through fun and engaging activities. While the girls participate in these confidence-boosting sessions, the boys will be involved in a high-energy afternoon of workshops and round-robin-style games, encouraging teamwork, resilience, and physical wellbeing.

We look forward to a term filled with learning, personal growth, and new experiences. As always, we thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s journey at Wyndham Central College.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9

Oh, where, oh where did those holidays go!

The Year 9s returned, all ready for Term 2. We had a wonderfully short first week back and have come in ready to learn, enthusiastic and eager. Term 2 is incredibly important as we begin to wrap up Semester One and get ready for Semester Two.

We started the term celebrating all things good from Term 1 by announcing our first winning tutor group in our termly Tutor Challenge. Term 1 unleashing a competitiveness within our tutor groups (and our teachers!), especially between 9B and 9S. Groups were awarded points throughout the term based on assembly challenges, uniform and attendance.

9B and 9S battled it out in the last week of term, with 9B coming out on top and taking home the coveted Year 9 cup.

Final results are below:

                                                                        Well done to 9B!

Current Tutor standings for Term 2 are as follows:

Let’s see who takes home the cup in Term 2!

Exams will be here before we know it, scheduled for Week 7. This means CATs and revision will be a key element throughout all classes as we prepare for our all-important exams. Please encourage your students to revise at home, read their English text (Romeo and Juliet) and complete their Cornell Notes to make sure they are as prepared for exams and ensure they begin to embed key study habits.

Please reach out if you have any concerns or queries regarding Year 9
