It’s been a fantastic start to the term in Senior School! The Year 10s have been loving their Food Tech classes in North Melbourne, getting hands-on in the kitchen and building valuable skills. They’ve also been tackling Financial Maths, making great progress - especially with mastering simple interest. Students have also been busy in Literacy, Media, Health, and PE, making the most of every opportunity.
During Term One, Year 11's focused on Informative Texts in their literacy curriculum. Some of the key topics studied included Propaganda and Stereotypes in media, as well as Audience and Context. These discussions prompted meaningful conversations about the persistent relevance of stereotypical views on gender roles in society today. Students watched the film "The Breakfast Club" and wrote journal entries from the perspectives of different characters in two distinct scenes. This exercise helped them understand the impact of behaviour and its influence on an individual’s life.
Additionally, the Biography Assessment Task allowed students to research a person of interest and utilise a variety of credible sources. In one-on-one discussions about their chosen topics, they demonstrated impressive knowledge and depth of research, which earned them praise for their efforts.
For Year 12's, the literacy curriculum concentrated on Informative Texts, specifically in three areas: Informative, Procedural, and Organisational writing. Students researched a country they would like to visit and wrote postcards that included information about a specific location, complemented by relevant visuals. They also learned how to apply for an Australian passport and created a 30-day itinerary for a holiday. These assessment tasks enabled the students to showcase their understanding of Informative Texts and prepared them for their future travels. They have worked diligently this term and deserve congratulations for their hard work.
Year 10 - 12 students recently attended the Try a Trade Expo, where they explored different trades, took part in hands-on activities, and spoke with professionals about various career pathways. As part of their career development, students also began the first of three Project4Hope workshops, where they explored their strengths and potential career paths. These experiences have given them valuable insights into future opportunities and helped them consider different industries.
The Year 11 and 12 students also organised a fantastic Harmony Day, thanks to the efforts of Maddy H. The Year 11's ran recess, and the Year 12's took charge of lunch – creating a fun, vibrant atmosphere with food, a scavenger hunt, friendship bracelets, and more.
It was a great way to bring the school community together!
