Cricket Season Success – Shield Wins and Grand Final Glory

It has been an outstanding season for Kinross Wolaroi School cricket, with multiple teams achieving fantastic results and adding silverware to the cabinet.

Back-to-Back Wiburd Shield Titles

The School's Wiburd Shield team has secured the title for the second consecutive year, following another excellent performance.

After a shaky start with the bat, Harry Yelland held the innings together with an outstanding 52, guiding Kinross to a competitive total of 141 runs.

Inaburra School’s chase was quickly derailed thanks to sharp bowling:

  • Fergus Smith – 3 wickets
  • Noah Martin – 3 wickets
  • Ben Brazier – 2 wickets

Well done to coach Matt Byrne and the entire squad on a thoroughly deserved victory.

Douglas Shield Victory

We are pleased to announce that Kinross has claimed the Douglas Shield title after a strong all-round performance in today’s final.

Despite losing the toss (again!), captain Harry Brazier led his team into bat first. The team responded with an impressive total of 201 runs from 40 overs. Standout performances with the bat came from:

  • Fletcher Byrne – 79 runs
  • Harry Brazier – 39 runs
  • Charlie Miller – 33 runs

In response, our opponents were dismissed for 125 runs. In his final game for the school, Jack Harding delivered a brilliant bowling performance, finishing with 4/23 from 8 overs.

Congratulations to the entire team, and a special mention to Will Waterson for his outstanding coaching. Sincere thanks also to Matt Byrne for his invaluable assistance throughout the season.

This marks the first time since 2017 that Kinross has won both the Wiburd and Douglas Shield competitions in the same season – a remarkable achievement that reflects the dedication and hard work of our junior and senior cricketers and coaching staff.

First XI and Second XI – Central Cup Campaigns

In the preliminary finals, the First XI unfortunately fell short at Riawena Oval, ending their season. Despite the result, they can be proud of their performance and the way they represented the school both on and off the field.

Meanwhile, the Second XI secured a strong win in their preliminary final, booking a place in the Grand Final at Bloomfield. Congratulations to Ashton Nock on back-to-back fifties!

Sadly, rain ruined the final, with no play possible. Despite finishing as minor premiers, the team could not be awarded the title due to the opposition progressing through the qualifying final. A big thank you to Chris Martin for his coaching and guidance throughout the season.

KWS Stars – U14s Grand Final Champions

Congratulations to the Under 14 KWS Stars, who were crowned grand final winners after a thrilling match over the weekend. It was a pleasure to witness their superb bowling, fielding, and batting against a fierce opposition.

This team has been superbly coached by Will Waterson, and a big thank you goes to all parents for their ongoing support—especially Michelle Wood, who has scored each week with dedication.

This has been a season to remember for KWS Cricket – congratulations to all players, coaches, and supporters who contributed to these fantastic achievements!
