Principal's Message

And just like that the first term of 2025 is completed. It only seems like yesterday that we were beginning the year. It has been a huge term with so many events being held. Term One is a fantastic time for classes to settle in with their teachers and classmates and to understand their school and class expectations.
Our Foundation children have completed their first term of schooling. It has been wonderful to witness their learning growth. They are now able to identify some of the sounds of the alphabet and use these sounds to blend and segment when they’re reading and writing.
The rest of the school have continued with their learning, the Year 1s and 2s raised and released butterflies as they studied life cycles, the Year 3s and 4s have been exploring high quality literature through their mentor text studies, our Year 5s have tackled tough problem-solving challenges in Maths and our Year 6s underwent a 2-day leadership training seminar. It’s been a fantastic term of learning at Billanook.
Easter Raffle
It was wonderful to have the community together as we drew out the Easter raffle at assembly this week. Congratulations to the winners. Our fantastic Parent’s Group managed to put together 25 hampers. A big thankyou to everyone who donated a gift for the raffle. As a community we raised over $2400 which will be going towards improvements for the school.
Football at Billanook
We love football at Billanook and we encourage our children to play at recess and lunchtimes. We do stress with all children who play football during break times that the rules and expectations are different to what they experience when playing football for their local clubs. At Billanook, we have a no tackling rule. Instead of tackling, the children have been taught to tap the person with the ball 3 times. This is to ensure that children aren’t been slung to the ground and injured.
We explain to the children that football at school is different to that on the weekend as we don’t have umpires, we’re not wearing boots or mouth guards, we don’t tackle, we don’t keep score and we’re not playing for premiership points!
We hope that our children can just enjoy playing footy with their mates at recess and lunchtimes and save the super competitive games for the weekends.
Mother’s Day Breakfast 7:30 – 8:30am Thursday 8 May
Our Mother’s Day event will be held in the morning this year. Our awesome Parent’s Group have organised a special breakfast at school. We will have bacon and egg rolls on offer and a coffee van! All Mum’s, children and special friends are welcome. Dads are welcome too if they’d like to help on the BBQ!
School Nurse visits
Our Department of Education School Nurse will be conducting her annual visits with our Prep children early next term. During these visits, children undergo a general health check that includes assessing speech, vision and hearing. Results are provided to families following the assessment. If your child is in a year level other than Prep and you would like a general health assessment, please let Liz Frith (Assistant Principal) know and we can arrange an appointment.
Happy Easter
Thank you for a fantastic first term. Please have a really safe and enjoyable Easter break and we look forward to seeing everyone back onsite in Term 2 on Tuesday 22nd April.
Regards
Michael Puddy
