Exploring Truth in Texts: Year 8 English

Year 8 English classes have been exploring the ways that different texts can represent and manipulate the truth. We have started the term by unpacking the different ways that composers can affect our opinions, make us take action, or change our thoughts.

The texts we encounter can have a great influence on us, and students are learning the importance of figuring out how they do this.

Year 8 have looked specifically at advertisements as a text that we encounter every day, even if we don’t realise it. Students have explored the way that simple choices like colour, images, and language can twist your thinking and manipulate us.

Students also experimented with creating their own texts, developing advertisements of their own. Take a look at the persuasive ads created by our talented Year 8s.
