Exploring Pathways and Future Opportunities

It has been a busy and exciting term in Careers at Kellyville High School, with students participating in a range of programs, presentations and industry experiences designed to support future pathway planning.

Year 12 students have commenced individual careers interviews to support their transition beyond school. These informal one-on-one meetings focus on university pathways, TAFE, apprenticeships, employment, gap years and future planning. Students are also being introduced to career planning tools such as JobJump and myfuture to assist with researching courses, occupations and post-school options.

Representatives from Macquarie University recently visited Kellyville High School to speak with Year 12 students about university pathways, early entry options, course selection and transitioning to university study. Students gained valuable insight into university life and future study opportunities.

Earlier this term, a White Card training course was held at school, providing students with an important qualification required for many workplaces within the construction industry. Due to strong interest, another White Card course is planned for Term 3. Students can register their interest online.

Year 11 Construction

Year 11 Construction students recently attended the Future Home Builders Expo, where they explored a wide range of careers and emerging technologies within the construction industry. Students learned about pathways in areas including flooring, plumbing and residential construction, while also gaining insight into innovative building methods such as homes produced using 3D concrete printing technology.

Industry Experience

Students across Years 10–12 have also been applying for a range of upcoming external programs and industry experiences. Selected students will soon attend the Macquarie University Incubator Young Wisdom Student Startup Bootcamp, while other students have applied for opportunities including the HP Inc. Career Readiness Program and the Transport for NSW STEMC Careers Day at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

Resources

Students visiting the library can now access a range of new visual careers displays designed to encourage career exploration and future planning. Displays focus on topics including career myths, post-school pathways, labour market trends, subject-to-career connections and the future of work. Students are encouraged to explore resources including JobJump, and myfuture website to research occupations, university and TAFE pathways, apprenticeships, scholarships and career planning tools. 

National Careers Week

The National Careers Week display encouraged students from Years 7–12 to begin thinking about future possibilities through career bullseyes, career conversations, pathway exploration and reflection activities linked to strengths, interests and future opportunities. 

Looking ahead 

Looking ahead, Year 12 students will attend the Western Sydney Careers Expo on 26 June. The expo provides students with the opportunity to speak directly with universities, TAFE providers, employers, apprenticeship organisations and industry representatives to explore a broad range of post-school pathways and career opportunities. Students and parents are encouraged to complete permission notes and make the necessary payments via School Bytes by 29 May.

There are also several important upcoming opportunities available to students before the end of June and into July. These include:

• University of Wollongong Open Day on 27 June 
• University of Sydney Year 10 Online Information Night on 11 June and Year 11 & 12 Online Information Night on 16 June 
• University of Technology Sydney Tech Fest from 22–26 June 
• National Institute of Dramatic Art Open Day on 13 June 
• University of New South Wales Science Information Evening on 27 May 
• Seven Hills High School Vocational Innovation Centre information sessions regarding vocational pathways, apprenticeships and 2027 course options 

Early entry applications and webinars from universities including Macquarie University, University of Canberra, Institute of Creative Arts and Sciences and SAE Creative Media Institute. 

Students interested in medicine and health careers are encouraged to explore upcoming UCAT preparation webinars and free medical entry information sessions, while students interested in trades, hospitality, construction, film, design, performing arts and technology are encouraged to regularly check the Careers Google Classrooms for opportunities, competitions, open days and workshops. 

Students and families are reminded to regularly check the Careers Google Classrooms and School Bytes for updates regarding excursions, university events, scholarships, traineeships, work experience and future career opportunities.

Business Camp Sydney 2026

Interested in business, entrepreneurship, leadership or creating your own ideas? The Australian School of Entrepreneurship is hosting a 3-day Business Camp in Sydney for young people aged 7–15 years.

Over three days, participants will:

• develop their own business or social impact idea
• build teamwork and problem-solving skills
• explore creativity and innovation
• work with mentors and other young people

• learn about entrepreneurship in a fun and supportive environment

Interested in Surveying Work Experience?

A surveying organisation has contacted Kellyville High School offering support to help organise work experience placements for students interested in surveying careers.

Surveying is a career pathway linked to:

• construction
• engineering
• architecture
• mining
• property and land development
• mapping and spatial technology

Surveyors use technology such as drones, GPS, laser scanning and digital mapping equipment to work on projects including roads, tunnels, railways, housing developments and major infrastructure projects.

• whether you currently hold a White Card

This opportunity may suit students interested in:

• maths
