Deputy Principal's Report

Happy Mother's Day
Thank you to our Year 2 Parent Reps for all their support organising, setting up and running the Mother’s Day Stall today. We hope the many thoughtful gifts brought smiles to the special people who received them.
Sending lots of love to all of our St. Finbar’s families this Mother’s Day weekend as we celebrate and give thanks for the mothers, grandmothers and special female role models and figures in our lives who care for, guide and support us each day. We also keep in our thoughts those who may find this time difficult, especially those who cannot be with their mothers or loved ones. We hope you have a wonderful and love filled day.
Mayflower Visits
Our Year 5 students attended their first visit to Mayflower Aged Care Home this week, a wonderful opportunity to connect with and learn about the life of an elderly buddy. Through this experience, they develop important skills such as interviewing, curiosity and active listening, while making connections and comparisons to their own lives.
The students will compile their learning into a life biography of their buddy, which will be presented and gifted back during a final session later in the term.
Each year, this experience truly fills our cup. It not only broadens our students’ perspectives, but also fosters meaningful connections and brings joy to the residents at Mayflower.
If you are a parent of a Year 5 student, we encourage you to check in with your child about their progress and the learning they are discovering through this unique and rewarding opportunity.
NCCD
We want to take a moment to keep you informed about an important process that takes place in our school each year. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting every student, we participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The information below explains what the NCCD is, how it works, and what it means for your child.
If you have any questions relating to your child and a potential disability, please contact Peggy McDonald, our Learning Diversity Leader.
ANZAC Day at the Shrine of Remembrance
On Tuesday the 5th of May our Yeaar 6 students attended the 94th Annual ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students at the Shrine of Remembrance in the city. Amoung thousands of other students from across Melbourne, our Year 6 students represented the St. Finbar's community with respect, reverence and pride as they honoured the courage and sacrifice of the servicemen and women who have served our country.
A special thank you to Harper and Caden for laying a wreath on behalf of our school community. They carried out this important role beautifully and represented St. Finbar’s with great maturity and respect.
Surviving the approaching cold weather
As the cooler months approach, we want to work together as a community to keep everyone healthy and happy at school! While we have noticed an increase in colds and flu among both students and staff, there is plenty we can all do to stay well.
Some simple tips to help your family stay healthy:
• Wash hands regularly, especially before eating and after using the bathroom
• Eat nutritious meals and stay hydrated
• Get plenty of sleep each night
• Sneeze or cough into your elbow
• Stay up to date with flu vaccinations if possible
We kindly ask that you take a moment each morning to check in on your child before school. If they are showing any symptoms of illness, such as a runny nose, sore throat, cough, or fever, please keep them home to rest and recover. This helps protect other students and staff, and ensures your child gets the care they need. We have had a number of students needing to be sent home recently, and we truly appreciate your support in helping us manage this together.
Thank you for being such a wonderful partner in your child's wellbeing, we look forward to a healthy and happy term ahead!
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Peggy McDonald & Laura Zeeng
