Cross Country

On Wednesday 21st May, during Week 5, students in Grades 3–6 took part in our Cross Country event alongside the wider P–12 school community. It was fantastic to see so many students participating throughout the day, with a large number of competitors giving their best effort on the course.

We are incredibly proud of every student who ran, walked, challenged themselves, and supported others by cheering from the sidelines. The encouragement, sportsmanship, and positive attitude shown by everyone made the event a wonderful success.

A big thank you goes to all staff and parent volunteers who helped make the day run so smoothly. Your support and assistance were greatly appreciated and helped create a fun and successful event for all involved.

We have many students that have been selected to move onto the next stage taking place in Wangaratta, and we look forward to cheering them on!

Collingwood AFLW visit

On Tuesday 20th May, students in Grades 3–6 had the exciting opportunity to welcome three current AFLW players from Collingwood to our school.

The players spoke to students about their experiences in the AFLW, their journeys through women’s sport, and the hard work and determination it takes to play at an elite level. Students were highly engaged throughout the session and enjoyed hearing first-hand about the players’ challenges, achievements, and favourite moments in football.

Following the presentation, students had the chance to ask questions, and we were incredibly impressed with the thoughtful, respectful, and appropriate questions asked by all students. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn more and to be inspired by positive role models.

On Thursday 28 May, senior students from Benalla, Mansfield and Euroa came together for a round robin competition, competing in both netball and football. St Joseph’s proudly fielded three netball teams and two football teams.

Organised and run by FCJ College staff and students, the day was a tremendous success. With perfect weather and plenty of enthusiastic participation, students enjoyed the opportunity to challenge themselves, demonstrate great sportsmanship and connect with students from other Catholic schools. The success of the day has already sparked plans for it to become an annual event.

For many students, the highlights extended beyond the results on the scoreboard. Isaac enjoyed the chance to "hang out with kids from other schools," while Lucas appreciated "seeing friends from different schools." On the field, Leo was proud of "kicking a goal and getting a few assists," and Emma enjoyed the experience of "playing against other schools." Elsie summed up the spirit of the day perfectly, sharing that her favourite part was "having fun and working with the team."

Congratulations to all students for representing St Joseph’s so positively throughout the day, and thank you to FCJ College staff and students for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our students.
