2025 NAPLAN Results

This week, Year 3 and 5 parents will have received their children’s 2025 NAPLAN results. Student achievement in NAPLAN is reported using proficiency standards for each assessment area at each year level. The standards are set at a challenging but reasonable expectation of what students know and can do at the time of testing. There are 4 proficiency levels:

  • Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.

  • Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.

  • Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.

  • Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

Reading a NAPLAN Individual Student Report

  • The front page of the student report provides general information about the tests and an explanation of how to read the report.

  • The second and third pages show the student’s result in each assessment area. The results are classified into one of 4 proficiency levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support.

  • The report shows the student’s achievement against the national average for their year (shown as a black triangle) and the range of achievement for the middle 60% of students in their year level (shown as a light shaded rectangle). Reports in some states and territories also show the school average.

  • The final page of the report provides a brief summary of the skills typically demonstrated by students at each proficiency level.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s individual NAPLAN report, please don’t hesitate to contact the Junior School.

Myrniong Driveway

A reminder to ELC and Junior School parents on afternoon pick-up that we need you to use both lanes of the driveway. This will speed up the collection of children and alleviate the congestion, particularly on wet afternoons.

Sheepvention Monday

Next Monday, 4 August, is a local holiday for Sheepvention. There will be no classes at the Early Learning Centre, Junior School or Senior School

 Hockey 7s

College entered a Boys’ and Girls’ team in the statewide SSV Hockey 7s tournament. The Hamilton/Portland round was held last Friday, at a very cold and windy Pedrina Park. The Boys won all their pool matches and had a strong semi-final win over Hamilton North. They came up against Tarrington in the grand final. In a close and entertaining match, College went down 1-0. The boys played strongly and were unlucky not to progress to the regional finals. The Girls’ won all their pool matches and played All Saints Portland in their grand final. The final score was 3-0 to College. The Girls’ will play in the Greater Western Region finals on 12 August.

Thank you to Tim Cameron, Louise Patterson, Zoe Price and Mardi Johns for their efforts with coaching, coordinating and running the canteen.
