P-2 Museum Trip
Our P-2 students are having a wonderful time at the Melbourne Museum today. I am sure they will be tired by the time they return late this afternoon!
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that the school will be closed on Wednesday 13th August for the pupil free day. Each year schools are granted 4 pupil free days and a Professional Practice Day by the Department. These dates may change each year depending on the needs of the school and must be approved by School Council.
TheirCare will be offering care on this day.
Bullying No Way Week 11–15 August 2025.
The theme for 2025 is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.'
This Bullying No Way Week, we're asking students, schools, families and communities to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to take a stand against bullying. In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted.
We currently have a poster competition running and invite students to come dressed with a touch of purple on Friday 15th August.
Book Week - Parade
On Thursday 21st August students are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. We will hold a parade at 9:30. Parents and friends are invited to come and join in the fun. We will even have a coffee van available from 8:30am.
Phonics Check In
Weeks 4 to 6 (August 11-August 29) will herald in a new DET assessment which will be undertaken at our school. The Year 1 Phonics Check is a one-on-one assessment conducted by a teacher with a Year 1 student, or a student at an equivalent stage of learning, in a quiet space.
The assessment involves a student reading aloud 40 words. These words are a mix of real and non-words. Non-words are an important part of the Year 1 Phonics Check as they are words that students have not seen before. Non-words require students to apply their phonics knowledge to decode, rather than relying on their sight memory or vocabulary.
The assessment usually takes 10 minutes to complete with each student.
