Year 1 & 2

Around our level

Indonesian Day

Last term we celebrated Indonesian Day. Our first activity was to go to the Indonesian room and take photos using holding Indonesian flags and items. Throughout the day, we participated in different activities in the Year 1/2 classrooms. In 2A, students practised their Indonesian by answering questions during a game of Kahoot. It was lots of fun! When we went to 1A, students played the Angklung instruments. In 1B students made batik patterns with watercolour.

100 Shades of Colour Day

On the last day of Term 2, we continued our celebrations of 100 years at Yarra Road, with a 100 Shades of Colour Day. We dressed up in as many colours as we could and even changed the colour of our hair! It was a fun way to end Term 2.

Reading

Book Week is in Week 5 of this term and we have already started reading some of the shortlisted books. We have started with books from the Picture Book category and so far have read ‘Truck Cats’ and ‘Afloat’. ‘Afloat’ is about an Elder leading a child along the outback waterways, sharing her People’s knowledge and gathering community along the way. The community are all participating in a weaving project. We discussed the people in our community and created our own weaving pieces.

In Writing our focus is poetry. Last week we wrote acrostic poems about winter. This week we are learning about alliteration -  ‘Two terrific toucans and ten tidy tigers’ - by Tilly!

Maths

We have started Term 3 by learning about graphs and statistics. We even made a pictograph using our shoes! We placed our shoes in order of the size of our feet. We have a very big range of sizes in our classes!

In History lessons, students have been learning about the 1920s, and how our school is turning 100 years old!
