Platypus Classroom

Literacy

As we return to school this term, our Platypus students are confidently transitioning from last term's focus on informative and persuasive writing to narrative writing with a strong focus on using figurative and descriptive language to build a mental model in the reader's mind. We hope you enjoy these small but powerful descriptive writing samples from two of our primary-aged students!

Maths

In maths, as part of our daily warm-ups, students in the Platypus class continue to build recall and automaticity of their timestables. This fortnight's focus has been on their 3 times tables.

As part of our explicit instruction, students have been building their understanding of the properties of 3-dimensional objects by building models and creating nets. They have explored volume and capacity by estimating and then measuring the capacity of different containers. We have enjoyed extending our understanding of measurement concepts through hands-on learning this fortnight!
