Religious Education

Term 3 in RE!

During Week 1, Year 11 and 12 Study of Religion and Religion and Ethics students visited Mareeba Mosque to tour this sacred space, engage in a Q and A with Imam Daimin Murat and share fellowship over afternoon tea. We thank the Mareeba Muslim community for this opportunity for interfaith dialogue and to enrich our understanding of the significance of rituals and sacred spaces in other traditions.

In Week 2, Year 11 Study of Religion students participated in University of Queensland World Religions Symposium. Students enjoyed insightful lectures from experts in the field, learning about different religions, and exploring the role of religion in the modern world.

During Week 3, students in Year 7 and 9 explored the theme of Catholic Education Week “Communities of Faith, Hope and Love” through craft activities. Check out their vibrant crosses capturing this theme, shaped clay pilgrim shells to remind us of our journey together, and folded bright origami suns to shine hope into our world.

Our Year 9 Religion students were also blessed to hear from four incredible senior students — Leanri, Brylee, Bonnie and Charlie

— who courageously and honestly shared their experiences volunteering with Rosies Mareeba.

Through their stories, our students gained a powerful insight into what it means to live out a Christian vocation in real, practical ways — showing how everyday people can embrace the call to be priest, prophet and king in service to others.
