Grade 4

English
In English, students have completed their unit on Making Maps, where they explored what maps can teach us and demonstrated their understanding in a final assessment.
Last week, the focus shifted to poetry. Students are now studying The Eagle by Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Who Has Seen the Wind? by Christina Rossetti. In this unit, they have examined the vivid language and imagery used by the poets and drawn inspiration from these works to craft their own animal-themed poems.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students have moved from a focus on fractions and decimals to exploring mapping and how grid systems are used on maps. This focus has continued into this week, with students using spreadsheets to build their own grid systems. Next, the Grade 4s will return to decimals, beginning with partitioning numbers to two decimal places and writing decimals in non-standard expanded form.
Inquiry
As part of our Inquiry into the History of Barwon Heads Primary School, Grade 4 students have been exploring how education might change in the future. They investigated different models of schooling and made predictions about how our school could look in 5, 25, 50, and even 150 years’ time.
This work will be showcased at the end-of-term 150 Years Celebration Day.
