Explore the Learning in Grade 2

English 

In Literacy, the Grade 2's will be beginning the Core Knowledge Unit, 'Making the Australian Constitution.'

 

Students will explore questions such as:

  • Which colonies did the British establish?
  • Why do you think the leaders wanted people to vote on federation?            
  • When did the colonies become the Commonwealth of Australia?
  • Why was Sir Henry Parkes called “The Father of Federation”?  

In Syntax and Grammar, students will be learning to use conjunctions such as 'because,' 'but' and 'so.' They will also be learning about writing a paragraph from a single paragraph outline. The students will be taught vocabulary words, including 'detrimental, established, isolated.'

 

 

Maths

The students will be learning about additive patterns with shapes and displaying data,  regrouped place value facts for 3 digit numbers and comparing areas.

The students will also explore counting notes and coins and comparing mass.

 

 

Inquiry

This term, the Grade 2's have been focusing on the history of Barwon Heads as we celebrate 150 years of Barwon Heads Primary School. The students are continuing to work on their items for the 150 Years Exhibition.

Friday 5th September: Father’s Day Celebration – 8.00am

Thursday 18th September – Saturday 20th September: ‘Walk Through Time’ exhibition in the gym

Friday 19th September: Last day of Term 3 – 2.30pm dismissal (gold coin donation for Junior School Council selected charity)
