Physical Education 2025 Wrap Up

What a massive year it has been for the school in Physical Education classes and sporting events.

The students are to be commended on their ‘have a go’ attitude and being able to adapt to weather conditions at the drop of a hat.

We have invited many external sporting organisations to run clinics - A.F.L, Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Lawn Bowls to name a few. This has continued to build our community connection and expose students to a variety of ways to be active outside of school.

Foundation to year 4 students completed their Swimming and Water Safety lessons which  assists with not only swimming skills but also allows them to develop a sense of independence

Year 5 & 6 students headed off to the beach to complete their Open Water Learning Experience which taught them practical water safety, survival and rescue skills.

We have had over 50 students represent the school at District sporting events. More than 15 students progressed to Division level and a further 6 students made it to Regionals. For a school of our size these results are exceptional and showcase where we stand in the sporting landscape. The year was topped off by having Elliot make the State softball team.

This year we offered numerous extra opportunities for students to trial for teams. We had success at Casey Cup Netball, Junior Hoop Time and Senior Hoop time.

A big well done to our 2025 House Captains - Mason, Maggie, Stevie, Chelsea, Zoe, Indigo, Amber and Delta. You have led your Houses with passion and pride.

Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who have assisted at sporting events both at school and offsite. Without you we would not be able to offer as many extra curricular sporting opportunities.

In other exciting news we have brand new House and School marques to use next year thanks to the P.FA.

Wishing all our families a safe break and looking forward to an even bigger 2026!

Water Safety Week

As a school we celebrated Water Safety week during P.E lessons in week 9 and 10. Students watched videos showcasing ways to be safe in a variety of water settings. We then completed a variety of ‘dry’ rescues. It was great to hear how much knowledge the students already had in the area and their ability to explain what they would do if an emergency took place.

Year 5 & 6 Beach Safety Day

What a glorious day the year 5 and 6 were treated to for their beach safety day.

Year 5 were first to hop in the water and complete their water safety activities. This included rescues, bogey board skills, life jacket usage, CPR and reading beach signs.

Year 6 started on the sand with some flag races followed by their choice of volleyball, cricket or sandcastle building.

After a break for lunch which included rehydrating and reapplying the sunscreen the groups swapped over for with year 6 in the water and year 5 having fun on the sand.

The day was run by qualified Life Saving Victoria instructors who made the activities engaging for all the students.

This year the program was fully funded by the Department of Education Swimming in schools funding.

In 2026 year 5 and 6 students will head off the Lysterfield Lake to complete lake based safety skills.

300+ Positive Point Celebration

Last week we were excited to celebrate with the 300+ positive point club. The students wanted to do an "explosion" as their reward so we got out the fun science equipment and made Elephants Toothpaste.

Kitchen Recipes

With the holidays here and the memories of delicious and somewhat healthy food in their head, students may want to try their hands at some home cooking. Below are the recipes that we used in kitchen lessons this year.

Artistic Flair

South Side Racing Art Competition

CSPS entered the Southside Racing event to celebrate the upcoming Cranbourne Cup. We were sent an outlined drawing to decorate in our chosen style. Chloe, Cleo, Indigo and Zoe from Year 6 worked together and used a huge variety of techniques. They added beads, buttons, torn paper, wool, glitter, matchsticks and plaster to the canvas to give it colour and texture. You did a WONDERFUL job girls!!

They attended the free breakfast and the judging. The canvas received second price which was amazing, unfortunately missing out on any prizes. Hopefully we can try again next year!

Foundation

We have covered so many different techniques and used lots of new materials this term. Foundation students have been focusing on positive and negative space and used spray paint to create silohettes as well as scratch painting with rollers and scrapers. Finally they used sponge painting to reveal a negative Christmas shape.

STOP MOTION

Year 1-5 students have completed a 3 week unit on stop motion. They used the Stop Motion app to create short animated videos using toys, blocks and backgrounds made with paper and found materials. Year 3 and 4 students added sound effects whilst Year 5 students used paper puppets to creat their stories. Stop motion was a hit and lots of students have come back to school saying they created videos at home too!

YEAR 6 LEGACY PROJECT

The Class of 2025 have now completed their legacy project for our school to enjoy for years to come. Students added themes that are unique to them and worked through the challenge of painting in layers onto a rough sawn surface. They are cut to the height of the students to compare for years to come!
