Around The Primary

Dear Families

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of another term! Term Two has been filled with wonderful teaching and learning opportunities and special events, including assemblies, liturgies, sacramental preparations, camps, Mothers' Day celebrations, Primary House Day, and winter sports.

Our staff always go above and beyond to give our students the best education, and we are grateful for their hard work and dedication. I also want to express my gratitude to families for their continuous support.

The Semester One reports will be accessible on SEQTA this afternoon (details below). The holidays are the perfect opportunity to support your child(ren) in acknowledging the accomplishments on their report and to motivate them to continue to do their personal best and to keep working hard on those aspects of their learning that are more challenging.

We look forward to seeing all students return to school on Thursday, 24 July for an exciting new term filled with learning, fun, and memorable moments.

Wishing everyone a relaxing and restful break.

Kind regards,

Antoinette De Pinto

CEWA Religious Education Assessment (REA)

Next term the Years 3 and 5 students will be participating in the CEWA Religious Education Assessment (REA).

The purpose of the REA is to measure student learning of the mandated content in the Religious Education Curriculum. Test items relevant to each participating year level are developed by the Religious Education Directorate at the Catholic Education Office of Western Australia. The test items consist of multiple choice, short and extended response. Students’ faith is not assessed.

We have scheduled a practice test for Years 3 and 5 students to take place on Wednesday, 30 July.

The following week students from Years 3 and 5 will sit the Religious Education Assessment (REA) on Wednesday, 6 August.

Please contact your child’s teacher or me via email at kylie.allen@johnxxiii.edu.au if you have any enquiries regarding this assessment.

Eucharist Retreat

Last Friday, the Year 4 students took part in a Eucharist Retreat, guided by the team from 24:7 Ministry. The retreat was a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of the significance of the Eucharist in their faith journey.

One of the highlights was a hands-on activity using grapes on a vine to symbolise how deeply God loves us and how we are all connected to Him. It was a reflective and joyful day that helped prepare the students for this important sacrament.

Music Eisteddfod 2025

Entries are now open for the John XXIII College Music Eisteddfod! Held on Sunday, 10 and Monday, 11 August, the Music Eisteddfod brings together every young musician on campus for a celebration of shared music-making.  The Music Eisteddfod encourages students of all experience levels to perform to an audience of peers and family members, in a supportive environment and receive encouraging feedback from expert adjudicators.

Students who learn through the College Music Program will have applications for the Eisteddfod managed by their tutors.  Applications for students learning externally are available via SEQTA Documents, through the Music Office, please email to music@johnxxiii.edu.au or in person, in the Performing Arts Department. Piano accompaniment is provided for all Eisteddfod entries (if applicable), so external entries are asked to supply a copy of the music.  A schedule for rehearsals with piano accompaniments will be communicated in the lead-up to the Eisteddfod, in Term 3.

Entries for the Music Eisteddfod close on Friday, 1 August at 4pm. Please contact the Music Office with any queries.

If you have any queries regarding Primary Music, please contact me via email: catherine.haydon@johnxxiii.edu.au.
