A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Inquiry Cycle Three

Beginning next week, students will be moving into the third cycle of Inquiry for 2025. At BNWPS cycles two and three are very closely linked, with cycle two always being a deep dive into content and concepts, and cycle three being an action based ‘so what’ from the learning in cycle two.

This year, for cycle three,  we will be exploring the following School Wide Key Understanding;

We can share stories in a variety of ways. Sharing stories helps us learn and connect to ourselves, people and places.

This Inquiry will involve students thinking about the history and geography they have explored, and making decisions about the stories from that exploration they would best like to tell. They will also be thinking through these stories from a variety of perspectives, and may even decide to tell a story from their own history or connection with land. Students will also be exploring the many ways to tell a story, and will be making decisions about the best way to tell the story they have chosen.

This Inquiry will go for nine weeks, and will end in a huge story sharing event on the school grounds in term three … more information on that later!

Planning Week

This week, teaching teams are eagerly diving into planning for their new Big Ideas. Planning day is not only a chance to plan new topics, but a way to celebrate all the great learning from Cycle Two. Each team has a whole day of planning, which means that year level will have a whole day with Specialists. Below are the days each level is planning.

Tuesday: Juniors

Wednesday: Foundation

Thursday: Seniors

Friday: Middles

It would be great if you let your child know when their teacher is planning so they can be prepared for the change. On these planning days, classes will have specialist teachers all day instead of their classroom teacher.

BNWPS Annual Public Meeting

Next Thursday (August 14th) BNWPS will be having its Annual Public Meeting.

The Meeting will take place in our beautiful STELA Library at 6.30 PM.

Tea, coffee and Sprout biscuits will be provided.

At this meeting, School Leadership and School Council Members will unpack the data that tells the story of 2024. We will also share our 2024 Annual Report, and will have time for questions from members of the community.

Some of the things we will dive into include;

  • English and Maths Achievement data (including NAPLAN)
  • The 2024 Financial narrative
  • Student, Staff and Parent/Carer survey data
  • School Council Subcommittee Achievements and Goals

All data that we unpack will be from the 2024 calendar year.

We would love to see as many parents/carers and community members present as possible.
