NSW Regional Chess Comp
Last Friday, we hosted the Zone NSW Primary Schools Chess Tournament, welcoming 23 teams from 10 different schools, with a total of 92 students participating from areas as far away as Coonamble and Werris Creek. It was a fantastic day, with all the students showing outstanding sportsmanship and competing respectfully. Congratulations to Werris Creek for taking first place, with St. Xavier’s finishing a very close second and third.
Year 5 Science
Year 5 students have been learning about Digital Technology with some hands-on Lego building and coding. In small groups, students are required to complete a build and create instructions (coding) which tell their build to move, dance, make noises, drive and many other functions. We have had some great creations so far and are looking forward to the next few Science lessons.
Fr Abmar Year 6 Class Visit
Last week Fr Abmar visited Year 6 to discuss the formation of the Bible and the stories within it. He explained the historical events that surrounded the formation of the Bible and answered many of the questions students had.
Year 6 Mathematics
Last fortnight students in Year 6 have been exploring multiplicative relations in Maths. Year 6 students learnt about the algorithm, partitioning, distributive property and the area model and put their knowledge to use. In groups they had to show all four strategies when solving different multiplication problems. Students enjoyed working in teams to share and apply their mathematical understanding.
