Principal's Message

Dear parents and carers,
This has been an interesting week indeed. I hope any damage caused by the flooding has not been too severe. Rest assured for any students missing school their learning will be adjusted accordingly.
It is well known that every child is different, an individual with their own set of needs. Whether it be learning, social interactions or emotional development, each child is unique in their maturity.
In the classroom we cater for every child’s learning needs by making adjustments specific to them. No one adjustment suits everyone. It is the same with emotional regulation and behaviour.
We respond to the emotional and social needs of each student fairly and consistently. Some students need daily support, others not as regular and some students just seem to regulate easily. At St Xavier’s this support is team focussed, parents and staff working together. If there is a student who we know of who always appears to be in some type of “trouble” I guarantee there is a network of people supporting and working with that child to build skills and knowledge. The old line of, “...and the school did nothing about it” simply does not apply here.
What is the difference between fair and equal?
Fairness means treating people according to their needs. This does not always mean it will be equal. Equality means treating everyone exactly the same.
Understanding fairness and equality goes hand-in-hand with increasing students’ tolerance and appreciation for diverse learners. If students can distinguish between fair and equal, they're noticing how privilege impacts them and their classmates.
We really appreciate the collaboration we experience with our parents and carers. The combined positive high regard between parents and the school for our young people will continue to achieve the best outcomes for all.

Student Led Conferences require students to take most of the responsibility for reporting what they have learned. This is the student’s moment to share his or her reflections on achievements and challenges with their parents and seek assistance to meet their goals. To prepare for this responsibility, students must evaluate and reflect upon their work on a regular basis.
When families, schools, and communities work together:
- Student achievement improves
- Teacher morale rises
- Communication increases
- Family, school, and community connections multiply
