Specialists and Interschool sport

Interschool Sport 

Winter sports are AFL football, soccer, handball, softball, netball and hockey. All students must be at school by 8:30 am to board buses and have with them appropriate uniforms/sports tops, water bottles, hats during April and any equipment. Mouth guards are required for AFL and Hockey and are recommended but optional for Handball. Shinguards are compulsory for Soccer and Hockey. Please ensure that consent has been provided on Compass. Team coaches will occasionally require parent volunteers and we appreciate you giving your time when possible. 

Music

In Music this term, students will be continuing to learn recorder duets. They will also do some mini units in iMovie and garage band.

PE

In PE this term, students will be developing game skills and strategies, to then participate in modified invasion based ball sports which focus on teamwork and rules.

They will also be participating in House Cross Country, which will be occurring on April 30th.

ART

This term, Year 5 students will explore the vibrant intersection of texture and colour through mixed-media collage painting. Students will experiment with unique layering techniques, incorporating plasticine and dry needle felting to add three-dimensional depth to their artworks. This hands-on unit focuses on developing fine motor skills and creative expression while pushing the boundaries of traditional canvas work. 

STEAM

In STEAM this term, students will design and create algorithms (step-by-step instructions) and implement them as programs using either visual block-based coding or text-based code. Students will apply these skills to control digital characters (avatars) and robots and test and debug their programs to improve their performance.

All learning will take place on iPads using Department-approved educational coding apps.

LOTE

In Mandarin this term, students will be learning to  use a variety of vocabulary, modelled sentence structures to sequence events or festivals.
