Year 10 Report

Year 10 have made a great start to the year in Term 1. Our focus this term has been on the core value of respect. We have seen our students stepping up to show their respect for teachers and peers by being on time and prepared for all classes, wearing their uniform with pride, and showing consideration for each other in the locker bay, classrooms, and on the school grounds.

Across the Vocational Pathways Program (VPP), General and Advanced Year 10 program students are engaged in their learning and being supported to develop strong learning behaviours to achieve success in Year 10 and prepare them for Senior pathways. Students are encouraged to establish a regular home study routine to ensure they manage their Year 10 workload successfully and prepare for examinations in June and November. Students who need additional assistance with this are encouraged to speak to their teachers or the Learning Community Team, who can provide advice and guidance to maximise their learning opportunities.

Outside their regular classrooms, students have had fantastic learning opportunities as well. The Outdoor and Environmental Education class had a great time learning to surf at Phillip Island. All Year 10 students have participated in workshops presented by Optus’s Digital Thumbprint program to discover the opportunities and pitfalls of AI technology. Students also had a visit from Legal Aid presenters to teach them about the Age of Consent and the importance of informed consent in respectful relationships.

This year, we have the highest number ever of Year 10 students studying a VCE subject as part of our acceleration program. In addition to discovering their VCE studies, students in VCE Biology were able to attend the excursion to the GTAC Life Sciences education centre, and those in VCE Psychology will study animal behaviour at the Melbourne Zoo in the last week of term. Students studying a VCE subject are welcome to request a quiet space in the Middle School building at break times to study during recess or lunch, or before or after school. Students wishing to access this should check in with the Learning Community Leader or Co-ordinator.

We also want to congratulate all of the individual students who are showing their personal best in our Sport and Music programs. Year 10 students have participated in inter-school Swimming and Intermediate sports with great success. Our budding performing artists had the chance to take the stage at Soloist’s Night and are preparing to represent their Houses in the Leonie McGinley Music Festival next term.

Year 10 students are also looking forward to the upcoming Work Experience week in Term 2, which will run from Monday, 18th May to Friday, 22nd May. Students have participated in information sessions about Work Experience and are expected to be

active and engaged in finding a placement which will give them insight into their future career pathway. All information and required documentation can also be found in the Year 10 Students’ Team in the designated Work Experience channel. We would encourage students to return their Work Experience Arrangement forms as soon as possible (preferably by the end of Term 1 or by Week 1 of Term 2). Our hardworking Careers staff are available to address student enquiries in the Careers office in the Middle School Building and also regularly update the Careers channel of the Year 10 Student Team with exciting career and education opportunities.

We hope that all students and their families have a safe and restful break over the holidays, and look forward to a great Term 2 with Year 10. Please do not hesitate to contact the Year 10 Learning Community Team if you have any questions, concerns or information that you would like to share with us.
