Encouraging Expected Behaviours – ‘Hampton Hero’

Informed by the 8 Positive Classroom Management Strategies, which are grounded in behavioural science, we know that a praise-to-correction ratio of at least 4:1 leads to greater success when learning new skills. At HPS, we are working towards greater consistency in how we recognise positive behaviour and how we share this with families.

To support this, we have introduced a school-wide digital acknowledgement system. When a student demonstrates an expected behaviour, any HPS staff member can send a notification to parents via Compass. This notification, titled ‘Hampton Hero’, is delivered via email and will appear on your child’s Compass profile. The email includes prompts to help you access and view the notification.

The behaviours being recognised align with our school norms and are linked to the Hampton Primary School-Wide Expected Behaviours flipbook, which was shared with all families during the Term One Parent-Teacher Interviews.

Below are two examples of how this notification appears when viewed on a desktop browser. You will notice a feature that allows you to ‘acknowledge’ the notification; selecting this option lets staff know that you have received and read the communication (see Example 2).

As with any new system, we are working with Compass to ensure it meets its intended purpose. We appreciate your patience as we continue to refine and improve its usability. If you would like to share your experience when receiving this notification, please respond to our anonymous Parent Survey.
