New books

We are fortunate to receive many book suggestions from students, and these are our first priority when buying new books for the library. Here are some of the fantastic new books we’ve added this term based on student recommendations:

· The Keeper of the Lost Cities novels have been one of our most popular series in recent years – so we know students will be thrilled to see Sophie and Fitz brought to life in graphic novel form! ·

We are never short of Manga recommendations! A recent addition is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – a fantasy adventure that is unique because it starts after the heroes return from a massive quest - a leisurely paced story to make readers stop and ponder.

· In his historical novels, Alan Gratz tells powerful stories of survival and endurance set against the backdrop of wars, disasters, and economic crises. His books are always engaging, so were happy to add Allies to the collection!

· A light novel is a type of popular novel from Japan - usually made for teens and accompanied by manga-style illustrations. In Apothecary Diaries Maomao, an apothecary’s daughter, is kidnapped and sold into service at the imperial palace. Here she tries to lead a quiet life but her powers of deduction and curiosity lead her into all sorts of adventures. ·

What If? 2: Additional Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions is an addition to our STEM collection – the author uses the latest research to answer readers' questions, incorporating both science and fun!

Premiers' Reading Challenge

Set yourself a Reading Challenge We’d love to see as many students as possible taking part in this year's Premiers' Reading Challenge, and will be rewarding their efforts with housepoints!

PRC challenges students to read 15 books between March-September - but students can make the challenge their own and set a goal that works for them. That might be to read 5 books - to write reviews for the books they read - to try a new genre, or to start listening to audiobooks.

Joining the challenge is a fantastic way to get motivated to read more - and more reading has benefits for all subjects!

To join, come and see Chloe or Wen in the library or email us: 8812-vbclibrary@schools.vic.edu.au. We will send the sign in details for the challenge dashboard where students can log the books they read, get reading recommendations and read book
