In the Moment

Harmony Day at Kilvington

Harmony Day was celebrated across the School on 17 March, bringing students together in a vibrant expression of culture, connection and community. From the Senior School’s “Harmony Hotdogs” fundraiser to activities across the Junior School and ELC, the day was marked by music, movement and a sea of orange, as students proudly shared their backgrounds and embraced the diversity that shapes our community.

In the Senior School, the celebration extended beyond a sausage sizzle, raising funds and donating hamper items for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and culminating in a spirited Kalamatianos dance that quickly became an all-in moment.

Across the Junior School, students contributed further hampers and led games from around the world, creating opportunities to connect, learn and celebrate through play.

Together, the day reflected a strong and simple message: that our differences are something to be shared, and that a sense of belonging is built through understanding, generosity and joy.

When our 70 bags of donated goods were delivered to the Refugee Resource Hub, the impact of the School’s efforts came full circle. Among those receiving the donation was Class of 2022 Old Kilvonian Kate McCorquodale, now volunteering with the organisation.

Welcomed by her warm smile, it was a meaningful reminder of the lasting influence of Kilvington’s programs, with Kate sharing that her awareness of the ASRC through her time at School inspired her to get involved.

Peace Garden Officially Opens

Sometimes, the most meaningful additions to a school are not the largest or the loudest, but the quiet spaces in between.

After its initial dedication on Remembrance Day last year was impacted by rain, the Kilvington Peace Garden was formally opened on Thursday 26 March in a small ceremony outside the Library.

We were delighted to welcome back former Principal, Jon Charlton, to cut the ribbon and mark the occasion.

Originally conceptualised by Mr Charlton, the Garden has been thoughtfully designed as a place for students and staff to pause, reflect and find a sense of calm within the school day.

His vision has been beautifully realised by our Maintenance team, creating a space that will be valued by the community for years to come.

It is a reminder that within the rhythm of a busy school day, there is always value in simply taking a moment.
