Chev Need to Knows
21 November 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,
Last night, Chevalier College hosted its annual Volunteer Dinner of Thanks, a special evening dedicated to honouring the selfless individuals who give so generously of their time and talents to enrich the life of our College.
Volunteering at Chevalier takes many forms, and each contribution makes a profound difference. From coaching sports teams, running the Saturday BBQ, and scoring or bench duties, to refereeing games, supporting milestone events like the Presentation Ball and Valedictory, and assisting at the Mother’s Day High Tea, our volunteers create experiences that bring joy and connection to our community.
Beyond these visible roles, many volunteers serve quietly and faithfully, whether as HSC readers and writers, hosting Japanese students in their homes, or working with the Past Students Committee to strengthen ties across generations. Every act of service reflects the spirit of generosity and care that defines Chevalier College.
The Impact of Volunteering
Volunteering is more than helping out, it is a living expression of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) charism. Our ethos calls us to be people of the heart: compassionate, inclusive, and committed to building community. When volunteers give freely of their time, they embody these values, creating a culture where love is practical and service is transformative.
Their efforts remind us that Chevalier College is not just a place of learning, it is a family. Through their dedication, our volunteers help students feel supported, parents feel connected, and staff feel encouraged. They make our College stronger, warmer, and more vibrant.
A Heartfelt Thank You
To every volunteer who has contributed in any way, “thank you”. Your generosity is a gift that cannot be measured in hours or tasks. It is seen in the smiles of our students, the success of our events, and the spirit of community that thrives at Chevalier College.
As we look ahead, we invite all families to consider how they might share their time and talents. Together, we continue to live out the MSC vision: “May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved.”

Principal

The program will be presented by trained external professionals.

Homerooms have been allocated two individuals for whom to put a Christmas parcel together. Your child may be asked to bring in some money or an item to contribute. I’d encourage you to take your child with you to purchase any requested items. These moments are great opportunities to discuss with your child the importance of compassion towards the marginalised.
We also welcome any families who may wish to put together a package as a family. If you would like to do this, please contact the office and an individual’s name and an item list can be sent home with your child. We ask that all parcels are delivered to the school by Friday 5 December.
This year we are collectively putting together 120 parcels for local community members. Thank you in advance for contributing to this practical expression of Spirituality of the Heart.
Chevalier College is once again supporting the Community Christmas Dinner which provides a Christmas lunch for local community members who are either going to be alone at Christmas or are struggling financially to celebrate the season. With the increased cost of living, last year’s event saw 300 people attend. The college has been asked to contribute by providing Christmas trees. If you have a Christmas tree or tree decorations which could be donated to the event, please drop them into the college by Friday 5 December. Any support is appreciated.

In light of the recent tragic event within the cricket community, it is timely to reinforce our commitment to player safety. Cricket Australia’s Head and Neck Protector Policy provides clear guidance on the use of approved protective equipment for batters and wicketkeepers.
The College will be following these guidelines and have updated our Risk Management Plan as follows:
We strongly recommend that all participants wear a neck protector in addition to their helmet to help safeguard both head and neck.
