Staying Safe Over the Holiday Break
As we head into the holiday break, we encourage all students and families to enjoy a well-earned rest while keeping safety front of mind. Summer days often mean more time outdoors, so remember to stay sun smart: slip on protective clothing, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat, seek shade during peak UV hours, and slide on sunglasses. If you’re spending time near the beach, pools, or rivers, always stay alert around water—swim with an adult present, follow local safety signs, and avoid swimming alone.
We also know that holidays can bring a mix of excitement and challenges. Some students may find the break difficult or feel overwhelmed at times. If you or someone you know needs mental health support, help is always available. Kids Helpline (24/7), Lifeline, Beyond Blue, and your local GP or community health service can offer support and practical strategies. Reaching out to a trusted adult—such as a parent, carer, teacher, or coach—can also make a big difference.
As the break begins to wind down, re-establishing a routine can help students return to school feeling settled and prepared. About a week before school starts, try gradually returning to regular sleep and wake-up times, organising uniforms and stationery, and setting aside time for quiet reading or calming activities.
We wish all our students and families a safe, sun-smart, and restful holiday. Enjoy the break, take care of yourselves and each other, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for a new term of learning!
