Year 6 – 7 Transition

Our Year 6 – 7 Transition Days wrapped up last Wednesday, and what a success they were. Over two vibrant days, students explored new subjects, met their future teachers, and sampled the excitement of high school life. Each activity offered a glimpse of what awaits them next year, and their feedback speaks for itself.

Classroom Hunt. Ms Mahoney

Armed with maps and curiosity, students set off on a classroom hunt across the high school. In teams of three, they tracked down letters hidden in different rooms and matched them to their locations. Student voices captured the fun and adventure:

· “I enjoyed walking around the school finding classrooms.” (Edie)

· “I liked finding the rooms the first day.” (Toby)

· “I enjoyed finding classrooms.” (George)

Cooking. Mrs Golden

The kitchen was buzzing as students put on aprons and got hands-on with muffin making. Many discovered that the process was just as enjoyable as the tasting. Students shared their thoughts:

· “I enjoyed the kitchen because the muffins were really good.” (Brayden)

· “I really enjoyed making stuff and I could chat with my friends.”

· “I really liked food tec” (Xander) and “cooking with Mrs Golden.” (Kayden)

Learning German. Ms Cox

In German, students dipped their toes into a new language through a series of fun, interactive activities led by Ms Cox. Their reflections highlight how much they enjoyed the experience:

· “I really liked LOTE because we got to learn some German.” (Joe)

· “I enjoyed the class with Ms Cox where I learnt some German.” (Joyce)

· “I liked learning German with Ms Cox.” (Archer)

English. Mr Flyght

English took a historical twist with a deep dive into the Black Death. Students showed creativity and humour as they invented their own “cures” for the medieval plague. Here’s what they had to say:

· “I enjoyed history when we came up with our own cures for the Black Death.” (Alfie)

· “These past few days were really fun. I enjoyed English with Mr Flyght.” (Amelia)

· “I liked when we had Mr Flyght because we had so much fun.” (Deon)

Timber. Mr Blomfield

The workshop was filled with the sound of hammers as students created their own noughts and crosses game. They left with new skills and a handmade product to keep. Their feedback was enthusiastic:

· “During the two days of transition, I really enjoyed the timber lesson. I learnt a lot of new skills and tricks thanks to Mr Blomfield.” (Ivy)

· “Today, we all had timber, and I made a TikTok toy.” (Tesi)

· “I enjoyed making stuff out of timber.” (Maddyn, Emmett, Bede & Caleb)

· “I liked timber because we made noughts and crosses out of wood, and we had to measure things.” (Jacob)

Geography. Mrs Corcoran

Students worked collaboratively in groups to come up with a country for every letter of the alphabet. It became quite competitive as to which group would finish first. They could use a globe to help them if they really needed.

· It was fun finding countries and using a map. We couldn’t think of one for ‘Y’. (Deon)

· I enjoyed writing down all the countries in the world. It was a brain teaser. (Tyson)

· I didn’t know there were so many countries. (Ollie)

Sport. Mrs Horne

Students participated in a range of short games and activities to experience a variety of skills.

· I liked playing ‘Chicken’ and ‘Kick it Cricket’ was very competitive.

· I liked spending time with other people and having fun. (Tesi)

· I liked helping return the dodgeballs. (Hank)

Next Steps for 2026

Students were given equipment lists for their 2026 subjects, along with enrolment forms for those yet to enrol, plus a school prospectus for new students. If parents have any questions about transitioning in 2026, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Wishing you a happy and safe break from school.

This year has given me many opportunities to see the strength, spirit and potential of our students. I am grateful to work alongside such a committed staff and supportive families. Thank you for the trust you place in us each day. I wish all students and families a safe and refreshing break, and I look forward to continuing our work together in the new year.
