Term 4 Week 9

Mrs Ingrid Corcoran – Retirement x 2

Mrs Ingrid Corcoran has made the difficult decision to hang up her teaching boots for the 2nd and final time this year. After many years at Boorowa Central School teaching Geography and Legal Studies as well as coaching many teams to Central Schools and CHS glory, Mrs Corcoran will now move onto a very well-earned retirement.

On behalf of the current students and staff, as well as the many ex-students who have been taught and coached by Mrs Corcoran, I would like to thank Mrs Corcoran for her years of dedicated and professional service to Boorowa Central School and the wider community. Our school is a better place because you were a member for such a long time.

Good luck in retirement Ingrid.

Respectful Relationships Education

On Tuesday and Wednesday 25-26 November, the Boorowa Central School Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) Team journeyed to Sydney to join the 9 other pilot schools in presenting their journey so far. All schools met at Taronga Zoo and took turns presenting how they were implementing RRE at their school. Each school had a 30 min slot and were expected to answer questions from the audience.

Boorowa Central School’s team of Mrs Horne, Mrs McGrath, Mrs Riles and myself presented 2nd on Wednesday and were warmly received by all in attendance. The other schools appreciated our contextual approach and wanted to know more about some of our unique activities that are supporting the implementation of RRE at our school.

In 2026, 200 more schools across NSW will learn from the 10 pilot schools and begin their own RRE journey, mentored by the pilot schools – including Boorowa Central School.

For Boorowa Central in 2026, we will be increasing our focus on collaborative teaching and learning strategies, introducing a ‘focus on self improvement’ initiative plus refinement of some of our restorative practices and recognition procedures. More to be communicated in this space when we start the new year.

Boorowa Public Preschool

I posted a link to 2 advertisements on the school’s Facebook page last week. These advertisements are for the 2nd preschool teacher position and the preschool SLSO position. If you are interested in either of the roles, and have the required qualifications, please follow these links.

Both successful applicants will join Ms Friend in the development and implementation of all preschool practices and procedures as well as resourcing the centre. Support and training will be provided by the Department of Education Early Learning Team.

Note: For the SLSO position, applicants must be already employed with the Department of Education.

Presentation Night

The annual Boorowa Central School Presentation Night was held on Thursday 11 December. This night’s purpose is to recognise those students who have achieved academic excellence or strived for excellence throughout the year. In addition, many special awards are also awarded to students in a variety of categories.

It was an absolute pleasure sharing the evening with those who attended, and I was especially proud of all the students who received an award.

Congratulations to these students.

I would like to thank the staff who volunteer their time to attend the event. I’d also like to highlight the hard work of the Presentation Night organisers Mrs Cusack and Miss Moorby. Their preparation, assisted by others, ensures that the evening is the success that it is.

Social Media Ban in Australia from 10 December

As many of you may be aware, in a world first, Australia has banned access to social media for children under the age of 16 from 10 December. This change will be very challenging for many of our young teenagers who have been accessing social media for several years already. This ban extends to many of the most popular social media platforms used by our teens. This is not a static list, when new platforms emerge they will be included also.

To find out more about the ban and which platforms are still ok to access, click on this link.

To help teens and their parents, Kids Helpline has some suggested strategies for coping with this change. Access to these strategies can be accessed here.

If you feel you need additional support for your teenager in the lead up to and during the ban, please contact our Student Support Officer Taryn Riles.

Wishing all of our families a happy, fun and safe school holiday

To all Boorowa Central School families, on behalf of the staff I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. May the holidays bring you much joy with your families.

School returns for all students K-12 on Monday 2 February.

Have a great break 😊
