This term has been filled with so many exciting events that have happened and things coming up such as the 5/6 Sports Day, the Fun Olympics, the Maritime Centre excursion, Book Week dress up and parade, Cool Activities Groups, the 1/2s Hive excursion and the Space Show Incursion for Science week.

For the Sports Day, the soccer and hockey group went to McKenna Park and the tennis group went to the Burnie Tennis Centre. The hockey team won one out of three and the soccer team won all six games, and the tennis team came first.

On 14 August the 5/6s and the 3/4s went to the Maritime Museum to look at some boats and Tasmania's Maritime history. We also learned about Antarctica and how Sir Douglas Mawson went to Antarctica and the Scientific research he did there. Sir Douglas Mawson went to Antarctica for 1 year but had to stay for 2 because on one of his adventures, all his equipment fell into a crevasse (which is a big crack in the ice); even his sledge and the dogs, which is very sad. So he had to walk all the way back to the boat. At the Museum there was a van full of fun facts about Antarctica.

For  National Science Week we had scientists coming in to talk to Years 3-6 about space. They told us about how stars form, and how countries have worked together to explore space. So far they have not found any evidence of aliens!

Book Week was held this week, and we had the book week dress up and parade for it on Wednesday 21 August. We all dressed up as a book character according to the theme which is Reading is Magic. We are very excited and grateful to the teachers that we can have this dress up day and have a parade.

On 9 August we had the Fun Olympics for an hour to celebrate the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Each student had the option to wear something green and gold for Australia. We had a great afternoon and finished the week off nicely.

On every second Friday we have Cool Activities Groups. Students must pick which Activities they like doing and they will go in a group with other students of all different ages to do their activities.

August has been a very busy month and we have had lots of birthdays this month. Mr Greenwood has given a birthday treat to the students who have had a birthday. A lollipop and a card has made them feel very special.
