Burnie Front Turning Circle - Important safety notice – restricted access during bus times for student drop-off and pick-up
Dear Parents and Guardians
Following safety issues identified during bus drop-off and pick-up times on the Burnie Campus, it became necessary for us to review our drop off and pick up processes. As a result of this, we will be restricting vehicles entering the front turning circle during bus movement times of a morning and afternoon.
We request that parents do not enter the front entrance car park to drop children off in the turning circle during bus times. Student safety is paramount, and we need to ensure that we are doing all we can to keep the turning circle clear to avoid any incidents occurring. Private vehicles in this area impede the bus driver's ability to safely drop off and pick up students. Cars also restrict traffic flow, buses can be blocked in by private vehicles, and these concerns have been raised by our bus companies.
We will soon install a new sign in this space to advise the following: Staff and school buses only to enter the turning circle during the following bus times: from 8.00am to 8.20am and from 3.10 pm to 3.40 pm. Please note: the safest place to drop off children is at the rear car park in Hull Street. Students and parents can access the school via the back gate from 8.00am.
Ongoing student safety is our highest priority, and we request your understanding and adherence to this change in procedure during bus drop-off and pick-up times.
We would also request parents and students only use the designated walkways and not walk across the turning circle, or along the rear of parked vehicles, to enter the school which minimises any risk of injury from people weaving between vehicles.
Please work with us to help keep everyone safe and again, we ask you to exercise extreme care in the bus zones when children arrive and leave school.
