Stealing a quote from last week's newsletter, "school communities are a powerful way to build a sense of connectedness and belonging" and this was not only evident, but in abundance this weekend at the working bee. The weather was perfect and we had so many families who came to help. There was a jovial atmosphere and true sense of community spirit as we all pitched in, worked together, laughed and finally enjoyed a sausage sizzle together!
Families worked to complete the following jobs:
Take a look at the working bee action!
With so many families coming along to help out, it made light work of the jobs. Children who came with their families got to help out with jobs as well as having some fun playtime. We cooked over 100 sausages as a thank you to our families, as well as dishing out hundreds of house points!
The school is now perfectly ready to host our Walk-a-thon on 5th September. Thank you to all those who came to help out. It is very much appreciated. Your time and effort helps to ensure that the school is a beautiful place for our children to learn, play and grow.
We have a very special community here at IPS with lots of opportunties for families to get involved. We are always keen to grow our volunteers so if you have a skill you'd like to offer, or if you'd like to help out in the classroom, help to organise next year's fair, volunteer a little time with the PFA, or volunteer to help out at the Walk-a-thon, please get in touch with your child's teacher.
Whilst on the topic of community ...
This year’s major fundraising event for IPS will be the House Walkathon on Thursday the 5th of September 2024. Following the morning in the classroom the students will enjoy an early lunch with fellow house members with the walkathon commencing at 1pm and concluding at 2.30pm.
Students are asked to wear house colours rather than school uniform on this day. Students are encouraged to carry a water bottle throughout the event, apply sunscreen and, if necessary, wear a hat.
Three courses will be marked out in the immediate school vicinity and supervised by teachers and parents on the day of the Walkathon. A shorter lap for the Foundation/2- approximately 250m, Grade 2/3 approximately 350m, Grade 4 – 6 approximately 900m. This year we are using electronic lap counting; this will give parents and carers more opportunity to walk with students.
The Walkathon is both a fundraiser and the promotion of an active lifestyle through walking. It also complements our active ride and walk to school programs.
Within each grade points will be awarded based on the amount raised by each House. Gold medals will be awarded for ‘Most laps’ in each grade level, and prizes awarded for ‘Most funds raised’.
School council agreed that funds raised (along with a donation from the PFA) will purchase:
The play activities incorporate some colorful playground designs which can help improve students' literacy, numeracy, motor skills and physical activity. Our school playground will be decorated with long lasting, vibrant Edumarkings using a unique thermoplastic material that lasts for years.
Keep your eyes peeled for more details that will be published shortly in the newsletter, ClassDojo and COMPASS.
The theme this year is: ‘Reading is Magic’
Our Book Week dress up parade will be happening on Friday the 23rd of August at 9:10am on the soccer pitch.

The whole school was so impressed with the orchestral perfomance of the National Anthem on Monday morning.
The orchestra also performed two pieces at assembly too. As usual, they performed exceptionally well, entertained and impressed the whole school! Our younger students loved the Pirates of the Caribbean piece!
The orchestra were supported by a large audience of parents too. Just another example of our great community!
Congratulations to those students who made it through to the Ivanhoe District School Sports Association Athletics Competition on Monday 26th August.
Student will travel to Meadowglen by bus at 9.15am, and will return back to school around 3pm. Spectators are very welcome to come along and cheer your child on (see the sport page for more information and Compass for Event information)
Good Luck to our Athletes!
Thank you for your continued support.
Have a great week.
